Soldier found not guilty of espionage
December 23, 1996 FORT BRAGG, North Carolina (CNN) -- A U.S. Army private was cleared Sunday of espionage charges but was convicted on lesser charges and given a bad-conduct discharge. Eric Jenott was sentenced to three years in prison by a military jury after he was found guilty of damaging government property and computer fraud. Prosecutors had argued that Jenott broke into Pentagon computers and passed a secret password to a Chinese national. The conviction will be automatically appealed.
