No bail for alleged crime boss
December 23, 1996Web posted at: 10:10 p.m. EST FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (CNN) -- Federal prosecutors won their bid Monday to hold alleged Gambino crime boss Nicholas Corozzo without bail. Prosecutors told the judge Corozzo should be kept in jail pending trial because he and his associates planned to gun down a man they believed stole money from the Gambino family. Corozzo, 56, faces charges including violations of the federal RICO statute, conspiracy to commit murder and arson, loan-sharking, and extortion. Corozzo, who federal officials say succeeded John Gotti as leader of the Gambino family, was arrested December 18 on a south Florida beach. Related stories:
