Here is the text of O.J. Simpson's statement he issued after being awarded full custody of his two youngest children, Sydney, 11, and Justin, 8:
On behalf of myself and the entire Simpson family, we would like to make this first and final statement to the press regarding my daughter Sydney and my son Justin: We are all so very grateful today to have the children home again where they want to be.
We would like to thank Lou and Juditha Brown for doing the best they could during a very difficult time and fully expect them to continue as active grandparents.
All the independent mental health professionals who were appointed by the court in this case have all agreed and counseled both families that any further exploitation of the kids or any further commentary by any family member regarding the children would be detrimental and not in the children's best interests. Therefore, we would ask the media and the public to allow my children their privacy and to live in as normal an environment as possible.
Further, I want to thank my neighbors in Brentwood and the shop owners and employees in the West L.A. area, for their courtesy and kindness when they encountered me with the children over the last 14 months.
From the entire Simpson family, we want to wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!
