California fire contained after 200 evacuated
December 18, 1996Web posted at: 12:00 p.m. EST RANCHO CUCAMONGA, California (CNN) -- A 250-acre brush fire fanned by gusty winds forced the evacuation of more than 200 nearby residents before firefighters contained the blaze, authorities said Wednesday. No one was injured and no structures were damaged. Fire crews remained on the scene Wednesday working to put out hot spots and making sure winds do not cause a flare-up. It was not immediately known when evacuated residents of Rancho Cucamonga, about 40 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, would be allowed to return home. The fire began when an electrical tower and two 500,000-volt power lines were blown to the ground Tuesday evening. Related stories:
