Blood expert sides with Simpson
No ruling yet in separate custody case

SANTA MONICA, California (CNN) -- A bloodstain expert said Monday that blood found on a sock in O.J. Simpson's bedroom was placed on the sock when it was not being worn.
Appearing for the defense in Simpson's wrongful death civil trial, Herbert MacDonell gave the same testimony during Simpson's criminal trial when he said blood had soaked all the way through the sock -- impossible if there had been a foot in it.
MacDonell, director of a private forensic laboratory in New York, examined socks found in Simpson's bedroom the day after Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were killed. His testimony supports the defense theory that blood was planted on the sock.
Simpson, who was in court on Monday, may return to the stand this week to answer questions from his own lawyer before the jury is sent home for a two-week Christmas vacation. Cross-examination would then take place in January.
When Simpson testified earlier in the trial, he told jurors he was not the killer and couldn't explain the physical evidence.
Also possible this week is a ruling on a separate court battle between Simpson and the parents of his slain ex-wife. Each side seeks custody of Simpson's younger children, Sydney and Justin.
