Fruitcakes sail through air
December 13, 1996Web posted at: 9:00 p.m. EST PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire (CNN) -- A fruitcake toss in this cozy New England town was downright nutty, as contestants catapulted the much-maligned holiday treat into the air. The fruitcake fling, sponsored by a Portsmouth radio station, was judged in three categories: distance, accuracy and grace. The winning cake sailed 52 feet, 2 inches. Participants launched the fruity holiday delight using a catapult specially built for the event.
