WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Vice President and Mrs. Gore will represent the president and first lady at Wednesday's funeral Mass of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin in Chicago. The President and Mrs. Clinton are traveling in Australia and will be unable to attend.

Numerous cabinet members and White House staff officials will accompany the Gores, including Secretary Donna Shalala, Secretary Henry Cisneros, Chief of Staff Leon Panetta and Assistant to the President Rahm Emanuel.

The Mass is being held at the Holy Name Cathedral. Cardinal Bernardin died last week of pancreatic cancer after 14 years as the head of Chicago's 2.3 million-member archdiocese.
