Some of the skydivers were thrown from the plane, and others were rescued from the burning wreckage, said Sheriff William Spence. The aircraft, which is often used by the local skydiving club, ascended briefly at the end of the 3,200-foot-long airstrip and then tumbled into the field shortly after 3 p.m. EST, Spence said. The plane's wings and the tail were sheared off by the impact, but the cabin remained intact, he said. The skydivers and pilot were taken to Culpepper Memorial Hospital and the University of Virginia Medical Center. Four were treated and released, one was in critical condition, one was in serious and four were in fair condition.
