Alternate juror dismissed from Simpson trial
November 15, 1996
SANTA MONICA, California (CNN) -- The judge in the O.J. Simpson civil trial dismissed an alternate juror from the panel Friday following a morning break. Judge Hiroshi Fujisaki did not elaborate as to why the 19-year-old woman was dismissed.
"Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, one of your number has been excused and you are not to speculate as to why," Fujisaki said.
The dismissed juror was a white female college student. Reporters in the courtroom said she sometimes nodded off during DNA testimony this week, although it is not known if that is why she was removed from the jury.
She is the second alternate juror removed since the trial began. There are six remaining in the pool of alternates.
