Explosion, fire at Texaco refinery near Los Angeles
November 11, 1996 WILMINGTON, California (CNN) -- A fire at a Texaco oil refinery near Los Angeles has been contained, fire officials said on Monday. There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries and there were no evacuations. An explosion preceded the fire. Black smoke billowed hundreds of feet into the air above the refinery in Wilmington, a small city adjacent to Los Angeles, as the fire raged out of control. The fire started in a "hydrotreater," a part of the plant that separates sulfur from oil products, firefighters said. Related stories:
