MIAMI (CNN) -- National Transportation Safety Board investigators are trying to recreate a fire to determine why Valujet Flight 592 crashed into the Everglades earlier this year. Focusing on oxygen-generating canisters that are suspected of causing the blaze aboard the DC-9, NTSB authorities will conduct tests at an Federal Aviation Administration facility that specializes in accident simulation. By setting ablaze five boxes containing about 250 oxygen canisters, examiners expect to learn how long it took for the fire to spread. They also plan to burn three inflated tires similar to those stored in the cargo bay and simulate sounds from the cockpit voice recorder. Related stories:
