PONTIAC, Michigan (CNN) -- An attorney for Jonathan Schmitz, accused in the so-called "talk show murder," said Monday Schmitz has psychological problems which would not allow him to plan a murder.

Schmitz is accused of killing Scott Amedure, a man who, during a taping of the "Jenny Jones Show", said he had a crush on Schmitz.

Schmitz, who said he is not homosexual, later told police he was humiliated by the disclosure.

A defense attorney said Schmitz, who admitted to the shooting, suffers from bipolar manic depression and did not intend to shoot Amedure.
