Unabomber suspect's brother hid bad news from mom

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Theodore Kaczynski's family said they attempted to have him committed to a mental hospital several years ago, his brother says on CBS' "60 Minutes." Kaczynski was arrested last April after his brother told federal authorities he believed Kaczynski was the Unabomber.

CBS released the "60 Minutes" interview transcript with David Kaczynski on Saturday. In the interview, David Kaczynski said he became suspicious after noticing that Unabomber attacks closely followed dates when the family sent Theodore money to be used for psychiatric treatment.

David waited several months before discussing his suspicions, saying he feared his mother might not survive the revelation. His tip led federal authorities to evidence found inside his brother's cabin in Montana. Theodore Kaczynski is charged with killing three people in four of 17 bombings linked to the Unabomber, and awaits trial in Sacramento for the murders.
