BILLINGS, Montana (CNN) -- Firefighters battling a two-week-old blaze in the Custer National Forest are making some progress, officials said Sunday. Residents of two evacuated towns were allowed to return to their homes Saturday night. The 12,800-acre fire has not spread since Saturday, said Bill Pidanick, a spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service. "It's looking real good," Pidanick said, adding firefighters may able to estimate when they will be able to contain it by late Sunday. "They made a lot of headway." About 815 firefighters from several states are battling the blaze near the Montana/Wyoming border. It has destroyed 34 vacation homes and three other buildings.
