Web posted at: 2:35 p.m. EDTWASHINGTON (CNN) -- Following the deadly crash of the ValuJet plane in Florida last week most Americans expressed reservations about the safety standards of discount airlines like ValuJet.
In a CNN/Time poll conducted Wednesday and Thursday, 57 percent of the 1,009 Americans polled said they have reservations about the safety standards of budget airlines compared to 31 percent who said they do not.
By contrast, a majority of those surveyed, or 54 percent, expressed confidence in the safety standards of major commercial airlines. The sampling error for the poll is plus or minus three percentage points.
