LYNNVILLE, Tennessee (CNN) -- A student is in custody after he apparently opened fire at Richland High School, killing one teacher and wounding two other people, according to the Giles County Sheriff's Department.
The suspect was being held in juvenile detention in Pulaski, Tennessee, about 15 miles from the small community of Lynnville, where the shooting occurred, said Karen Gowan.
A teacher and a student had been brought to Maury Regional Hospital in nearby Columbia and were transferred to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, said Maury's Cindy Fox.
Fox said the 50-year-old teacher had a gunshot wound to the head but was alert and talking. She said a 16-year-old student was shot in the neck.
