Next Sound Off: Airport security(CNN) -- The September 11 terrorist hijackings and attacks quickly led to the implementation of much tighter security measures at U.S. airports.
All knives are banned, all but ticketed passengers are prohibited beyond security checkpoints, the use of federal air marshals has been stepped up and passengers will be subjected to more physical checks. Curbside check-in was halted but is being permitted for certain airlines at some airports. Meanwhile, President Bush wants more federal oversight of airport security, and has proposed federal funding to help fortify cockpit doors. (see full story).
