(CNN) -- Although early snow is causing headaches for some in the United States, it's proving good news for ski resort owners and their constituents: powder hounds.

Thanks to Mother Nature, "We've been open early," said Ken Payne, media relations manager for Colorado's Breckenridge and Keystone ski resorts. Breckenridge opened a week earlier than planned on October 25, celebrating its earliest opening ever. Meanwhile, Keystone beat out all the other Colorado resorts with an October 21 debut.

"Even for old-timers, it's a memorable season kick-off," Payne said. As of Friday, Keystone was up 39 percent over projections and Breckenridge was up 40 percent, he said. In the last seven days, Breckenridge has had 15 inches of snow.

In the spirit of this promising early season, CNN Interactive Travel Guide is giving readers a taste of its upcoming Ski Report section. Ski Report, launching November 21, will feature automatically updated conditions at hundreds of ski resorts in the United States, useful links, and Mail from the Trail, a forum where skiers can share experiences and advice.

For now, check out ski conditions at some resorts up and running out West:
