(CNN) -- The U.S. State Department has issued an announcement cautioning travelers about the effects of bad weather in parts of Mexico. According to the announcement issued October 8, mudslides and flooding have rendered many roads "impassable or barely passable" in the Mexican states of Chiapas, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Puebla, Tabasco, and Veracruz. The State Department says toll highways are open and reportedly functioning well.
For more information about road conditions in Mexico, the State Department recommends contacting the Mexican Federal Highway Police at tel. 011-525-550-4857. The Public Announcement expires on October 15, 1999.
