PARK CITY, Utah (CNN) -- Travelers are faced with many decisions when planning a vacation. But a when heading to ski country the most important question is: What should you wear to stay warm?
"The clothing that is out there now is unbelievable. There is no reason that you should be cold," said Ski Magazine style editor Megan Henry.
Henry swears by the law of layering. She suggested starting with long underwear made from fabrics that can absorb moisture and dry quickly such as silk or a polyester blend.
The next layer is an insulating layer. According to Henry you should "look for a fleece or wool sweater that will again dry very quickly."
A ski jacket goes over the layers. It should be lightweight, but made of waterproof, breathable materials. As long as you are wearing layers under your jacket you should be able to keep warm.
To finish the outfit, every skier needs mittens or gloves. If you can't decide between the two, that is not a problem. Some companies are designing mittens with gloves inside. You just unzip the side of the mitten and slide your gloved hand out. Henry described it as "the best of both worlds."
Neon is back
Now that you know how to keep warm, you need to decide what looks good. Ski wear comes in lots of colors and designs. If you love bright colors, you will be glad to know neon is back in fashion.
"I think color forecasters looking to the new millennium are saying it is
going to be a time of celebration some really bright vibrant fiesta colors -- yellows, reds, golds. Neon is back," Henry said.
One tip is to go trendy with accessories like hats and gloves, but choose outfits you will want to wear for many seasons. The price tag for a cold-weather wear, even before you buy skis and boots, can range from $200-$2000.
