August 10, 1998
Web posted at: 2:25 p.m. EDT (1425 GMT)

(CNN) -- The U.S. Department of State is warning Americans against travel to Kenya and Tanzania in the wake of bombings at U.S. embassies in both nations last week. Americans already in Kenya and Tanzania are being advised to limit their travels and exercise caution.

The State Department has also issued a Worldwide Travel Caution. "While we know of no specific threats to U.S. citizens or interests overseas in relation to the present situation in East Africa, we cannot discount the possibility of random acts of anti-American violence," the department stated.
