State Dept. receiving information of possible terrorist attacks in Middle East

(CNN) -- The U.S. Department of State has issued an announcement on the Middle East and South Asia, cautioning Americans of the possibility of terrorism.
According to the State Department, it has received information that indicates planning for an attack on Americans in the Persian Gulf. In addition, there have been published and implied threats recently of attacks on Americans, both military and civilian.
The Department advises Americans to defer travel to the region if possible, maintain a low profile and to register with their embassy or consulate.
