Web posted at: 4:32 p.m. EST (2132 GMT)

PARIS (CNN) -- The U.S. Dept. of State announced Tuesday extended hours of operation for consular services during the World Cup soccer tournament June 10-July 12 in France.

In addition to regular hours, the American Embassy in Paris will be open for emergency and special services during each weekend in June, and officers will be available in Lyon for a June 21 soccer match and in Nantes for June 25 match.

The department also listed some hints for protection from crime, and asked Americans to avoid street demonstrations during the tournament.
