Electronic gadgetry to keep business travelers happy and productive

(CNN) -- It's the time of year for making holiday wish lists -- and getting organized for the new year. CNN TravelGuide has a few suggestions for business travelers looking for some high-tech gift items to take into 1998 -- ideas that could help lighten the workload and maybe shorten your holiday shopping list.

Palm Computer

Handheld computers put the power of technology in the palm of your hand. Current models let you do just about anything, from faxing or e-mailing a client to creating a spreadsheet. Prices for a handheld computer range from $150 to about $400 depending on the features you need.

Recorder

If taking notes is part of your job, a digital recorder might come in handy. Priced in the range of $200, it's smaller and has more clarity than its predecessor, the analog tape recorder.

Digicam

If your profession uses visual aids, this new digital camcorder by JVC has a rotating viewfinder and special-effect capabilities, including a snapshot feature. A docking station uploads the video to your PC for office presentations and even transmission over the Internet. The digital camcorder sells for just under $2,500.

Digital technology gives new meaning to that old saying: Sometimes the best gifts come in small packages.
