Rustlin' up Rattlers in Georgia

(CNN) -- More than 25,000 people are expected at the 30th Annual Rattlesnake Roundup in Claxton, Georgia, which ends Sunday. The two-day festival features a parade, snake demonstrations, live snakes and information about their importance to the ecosystem. Rattlers are rounded up before the weekend, and prizes are handed out for the largest snake and most snakes found. Contrary to popular belief, snakes are not cooked nor eaten at the festival, according to Jack Bareford of the Claxton Chamber of Commerce. Instead, they are milked of their venom to make antivenin. The rattlers are then sold for research purposes or released into the wild, Bareford says.
