KILA RAIPUR, India (CNN) -- A three-day rural olympics, including hockey and horse and bullock cart races, concluded Sunday in the northern Indian state of Punjab.

Considered to be the only rural sporting meet of its kind, the event is held annually in the village of Kila Raipur.

The games are organized annually by the local Grewal Sports Club. They were started in 1933 to encourage the sporting interests of local young people, said club general secretary Paramjit Singh Grewal.

Several thousand spectators watch competitors, who come from as far away as the United States, Canada and Europe.
