Eats with ambiance

On the waterfront you'll find decor, menus, and prices geared toward peso-spewing tourists. Move inland a few blocks and watch the prices plunge downwards. Seafood meals are generally fresh. The public market, at Degollado and Revolución, offers a cheap selection of fruits, veggies, and fresh fish.

Restaurante El Quinto Sol (tel. 2-16-92), B. Domínguez at Independencia. One of the few vegetarian joints in Baja. Menu includes sausage á la soybean, as well as an assortment of juices. Yogurt smoothie with fruit 15 pesos, vegetarian steak 21 pesos, tasty pastries 2 pesos. Open Mon.-Sat. 7:30am-9:30pm.
