Korean War Veterans Memorial
Among the most recent of memorials to be built on the Washington mall, the Korean War Veterans Memorial was dedicated on July 27, 1995. Created to pay homage to the men and women who served in Korea, the monument contains three key elements: The most striking piece is the triangular "field of service" containing 19 stainless steel statues of soldiers in various positions as they cross the rugged Korean terrain. Running alongside the field is a black granite wall etched with the images of more than 2,400 unnamed service men and women. Near the tip of the triangle rests the "pool of remembrance," an area for quiet reflection.
