Named after the San Francisco neighborhood, this is Portland's hip shopping district, a pastiche of bookstores, coffee houses, brewpubs and sophisticated stores -- many of which do business out of restored Victorian houses, the "painted ladies" that give the area its charm. Northwest 21st and 23rd streets, are the district's main arteries.
