Romania is an overwhelmingly Christian nation -- 70 percent of its people belong to the Romanian Orthodox Church.

Most of the denomination's churches are decorated from floor to bell tower with icons, golden altar pieces and giant frescoes, making a visit to one as much an artistic inspiration as a religious experience.
