(CNN) -- The seventh inning stretch -- a baseball tradition. The ballpark's organist strikes up the chords and thousands of baseball fans stand at their seats to sing the national pastime's lively anthem. It's a timeless tradition, and in ballparks such as Chicago's Wrigley Field, Boston's Fenway Park, or New York's Yankee Stadium, the ghosts of major leaguers past sing along in the haunts they made famous.
The ivy-covered outfield wall of Wrigley still beckons the power hitter's might, as does Fenway's famed Green Monster in left field. To walk around these ballparks -- to take a seat inside -- is to breathe the air of an American icon, a different icon in every city where baseball players step up to bat and take a swing at history.
