Off-beat Fourth of July

Some folks just can't help but buck tradition and devise their own ways to fete the Fourth of July. It is called Independence Day, after all.

In Stillwater, Oklahoma, there is no rest for the lawn-obsessed. A turf-war, of sorts, grips the town on the Fourth of July when contestants rev up their engines for Stillwater's annual Lawnmower Race.

Edward Krachie gulped down 22 hot dogs, buns included, to win the annual Nathan's Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest at Coney Island. The 6-foot-6-inch, 300-pound winner later went to a celebration barbecue.
