Wrigleyville: Around Wrigley Field

Wrigley Field

The 3400 block of Clark Street, just south of Wrigley Field is home to an eclectic group of stores, restaurants, and bars.

Flashback Collectibles, at 3450 N. Clark, is a great place to find that old Farah Fawcett poster that hung over many teenager's beds in the 70s. Everything here is circa 1960-1979. Next door, Strange Cargo is a vintage store with a slightly broader appeal.

Wrigley Field is a dramatic thing to stumble upon at Clark and Addison streets. It's one of those neighborhood parks that brims with sentimentality, tradition, and a love for the great American pastime.

Built in 1914, it's the oldest stadium in the National League. Thick ivy grows along the outfield wall. Fans sit on old-fashioned bleachers, and a 1930s scoreboard still keeps tabs manually. Tours are available on Saturdays.

"Many people enjoy Cubs games from neighborhood rooftops, and their cheers often echo up and down Clark Street."

Many people enjoy Cubs games from neighborhood rooftops, and their cheers often echo up and down Clark Street. The stadium's practice of hoisting win-loss flags after each game lets El-riders know whether or not to get off and join the celebrations.

Many Cubs fans do much of their partying at two sports bars, across from Wrigley Field on Clark Street.

If you're in the spirit of the game, try the batting cages at Sluggers. A couple of doors away, Cubby Bear has a dual personality as a sports bar by day and a live-music lounge by night.

The Metro, at 3730 N. Clark, draws a different crowd. This club a block north of the ballpark is popular with twenty-somethings who come to hear their favorite alternative rock bands jam late into the night.

The building itself is a fine example of Spanish Baroque Revival. It was the style of choice for Chicago's entertainment halls during the Roaring 20s.
