Jodi Arias Case Ongoing

Aired March 12, 2013 - 19:00:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, HOST: Tonight, a shocking new theory about why Jodi Arias recorded that raunchy triple x-rated phone sex call. Was it sexually explicit call a trophy?

We`re just getting started. We have somebody who knew Travis and Jodi to tell us, to lay out her theory of this phone sex call in just a moment.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Tonight, a stunning new theory emerges about why Jodi Arias recorded that raunchy phone sex call with Travis Alexander less than a month before she killed him. Was it part of a larger plan? I will speak with a friend and former co-worker of Travis`s who says that Jodi creep her out, and why she has reasonable to believe the phone sex call was part of the alleged plot. We will debate it with our expert panel, and we`re taking your calls.

Plus, a beautiful young teacher vanishes into thin air after a night out in New Orleans. Her desperate family pleading for help.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I just want my baby back. I want her home.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Where is Terrilyn? We`ll talk to her emotional mom tonight as we try to solve this gut-wrenching mystery.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Did you enjoy having sex with Travis?

JODI ARIAS, DEFENDANT TO TRAVIS ALEXANDER`S MURDER: For the most part, yes, I did, very much. He cared about my pleasure as well. There were things that I was uncomfortable with having sex on the hood of a car, little red riding hood fantasy that it would involve sex.

You`re bad. You make me feel so dirty.

I love Travis Victor Alexander so completely I don`t know any other way to be.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Would it be fair to say that he had an all access pass to your body?

ARIAS: Yes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: But, the only thing lesson here is rabbit in the pot.

ARIAS: I made a lot of bad decisions when it came to Travis.

If I`m found guilty, I don`t have a life.

I just remember he had his hands around my neck and he was banging my head on the carpet.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: So you had sex behind closed doors and he beat you behind closed door.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Did he force you to do things you didn`t want to do?

ARIAS: He didn`t physically force me.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Tonight as Jodi Arias sits in her jail cell right now as we speak preparing to get back on that witness stand tomorrow, a stunning new theory has emerged about why Jodi recorded that secret raunchy phone sex call between her and Travis. Could making that audio tape have been one of the first steps in what prosecutors call a cold and calculated murder plot?

Tonight, a close friend of Travis Alexander`s is joining us to tell us that she believes that phone sex tape was a trophy connected to the killing, planned before she killed him.

Good evening, I`m Jane Velez-Mitchell coming to you live.

The 32-year-old aspiring photographer on trial for allegedly stabbing Travis Alexander 29 times, slashing his throat from ear to ear and shooting him in the face. Jodi says, yes, I did it but it was all done in self defense. He was abusing me. But now, one of Travis`s co-workers says Jodi planned to kill Travis and recorded their phone sex call less than a month before she killed him so she could relive their sex life after he was dead.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`m going to tie your arms around a tree, blind fold you. And put a camera on a timer while I`m (bleep) you. I`m going to get some great shots of freaking putting (bleep). I mean, it`s going to be like legitimate porn.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Having him give you this (bleep) and making, quote unquote, "legitimate porn," was that something that you were willing to do to please him?

ARIAS: I was willing to do that.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And tonight, we have explosive new information about a story we broke for you right here on this show last night. We were the first ones to tell you about that shocking conspiracy theory promoted by Jodi Arias` supporters that Travis Alexander had a violent past and a criminal conviction for battery. I even have the sheet here. Here is the criminal report.

Take a look at this mug shot. Is the secret mug shot the key to proving that they`re wrong, that Travis Alexander was not a violent criminal but rather a victim of identity theft? Does this person look like Travis Alexander to you? We will explain.

All right, I want to hear from you about all of this. Call me 1-877- JVM-SAYS. 1-877-586-7297.

Straight out to our very special guest, Pam Larson, a friend and co- worker of victim Travis Alexander.

Pam, thank you so much for joining us and having the courage to give us your theories and your thoughts on this case.

Tell us specifically about your theory concerning why Jodi Arias recorded that filthy triple x-rated phone call, the so-called sex phone call with Travis Alexander. What is your theory, ma`am?

PAM LARSON, REGULAR JODI ARIAS TRIAL ATTENDEE: Well, I don`t believe Travis knew anything about it. I think her plan was that she was going to go to Arizona and she was going to do whatever he wanted sexual-wise and then ask him if he was still going to take the other girl to Cancun or if he would take her.

Now, if he would take her, I think that then she would just save that to show -- to sending to girlfriends if he got another girlfriend. But above that, if he didn`t take her, she knew she was going to kill him and she didn`t figure she would ever get caught. And in that respect I think she did it so she would always be able to have sex with Travis.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Unbelievable theory, but it makes perfect sense. I mean what`s the chance of it being a coincidence that they just happen to record this phone sex tape and she kills him in "self defense,` quote unquote, less than a month later?

Jodi claims Travis was the one who asked her to make the tape. The prosecutor says that`s total nonsense, that Jodi did it secretly without telling Travis. So why did she make this phone sex tape less than a month before killing him?

Jodi admitted in testimony that she and Travis had a winky -- a wild and kinky, which now I am going to call a winky sex life, including role playing complete with costumes.

You know, this case sometimes makes for surreal language. I think I just coined a new term, winky. This language is explicit, but it was played in open court.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I could (bleep) at any moment. Put my (bleep) in every orifice of your body.

I want to get like some like park ranger type outfits for me to wear. Oh honey, that was huge. I just did like 15 (bleep). Which is surprising, because, you know, I (bleep) this morning.

Seriously I could - if I was a (bleep) blank, I could retire (bleep).

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right. I want to bring in psychologist Seth Meyers, who is out of the L.A. bureau. We know that killers often take souvenirs of their crimes and they like to have those. That is a known fact. But this would be truly extraordinary to create a souvenir to have long before. But it was only less than a month before she killed Travis Alexander.

And the theory that Pam Larson is suggesting is she recorded this to have a trophy so that she could listen to it and let`s lay it out on the table, pleasure herself, even knowing that he`s dead and he can`t be there anymore.

SETH MEYERS, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: Yes, you know what, I think it`s possible, but I don`t think that that was the main objective for her in making the tape. I actually think, you know, she is sociopathic. A good sociopath is always working on plotting and calculating something. And I think that her intention was to use it against him. She didn`t know exactly how, but I think it probably had something to do with he was threatening to leave her or did leave her.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes. Well, he was threatening. The point is, though, and we`re going to debate this with our expert panel. He was threatening to leave her and he was also planning to take another woman on vacation to Cancun with him.

So, the defense is trying to prove, of course, that using this tape to try to show that Travis is abusive and a sexual deviant and to drive that point home with the jury, they actually reed it the Jodi and Travis sex tapes and focused on what Travis said. The triple x-rated things that Travis said he wanted to do to Jodi.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I want to give you a (bleep) too.

ARIAS: What`s this?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Do you know what he was talking about?

ARIAS: No, I didn`t know what that term meant.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Where I blow my we did right -- just like a quarter inch inside your (bleep).

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All Right. Let`s debate it with our expert legal panel. And I will start with Jon Leiberman, HLN contributor searching for justice on AOL, Pam Larson, who is our special guest tonight, says that she believes that Jodi Arias recorded this, and I believe it was on May 10th, 2008, knowing she was going to kill Travis Alexander on June 4th, less than a month later, so she could have it to play after he was dead as a trophy and perhaps as some kind of audio sex toy, Jon.

JON LEIBERMAN, HLN CONTRIBUTOR: I don`t know if it`s a trophy or not, but I do know this. The evidence shows that everything that Jodi Arias does is cold and calculated. I believe she recorded this to try and entrap Travis, so she had something to hold over his head down the road. And in this case she didn`t need anything to hold over his head because she ended up killing him in cold blood and then lying about it.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right. Drew Finley, criminal defense attorney for the defense.

DREW FINLEY, CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY FOR THE DEFENSE: Well, let`s go to the original question and that is did she do this as a souvenir and something to use in her defense and the answer is, of course, no because if she planned to use this to bolster a claim of battered woman syndrome, she would have used this defense in the beginning, Jane, and not come with two completely different defenses. So it has nothing whatsoever to do with the claim of justification that she`s using in this jury trial.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes, but I thought of that. And I thought somebody like Jodi Arias who is obviously obsessive and compulsive too a little bit. She has a lot of attention to detail in the things that she`s done, we`ve seen that. This was not -- it may have been ill planned but it certainly wasn`t haphazard, it was elaborately planned. I think a person like that has backup plans. And I`ll throw that to Fred Tecce, former prosecutor.

Oh, it sounds crazy, having a souvenir of having sex with somebody on audio tape so you can go kill them and play it afterwards. It sounds crazy, but isn`t everything in this case crazy sounding?

FRED TECCE, FORMER PROSECUTOR: Well, a lot of it is crazy-sounding. In my opinion this woman is guilty of murder in the first degree and deserves the death penalty. So, you know, what, as a prosecutor, you have got to look at every piece of evidence that goes in and does it go to make a fact, an issue more or less probable. And I understand what this woman said who was friends with Travis Alexander. That would be a reasonable conclusion for her to draw.

But you know as a prosecutor, you have to have evidence. And so a guy like Drew Finley, the hole in that evidence would be so big a guy like Drew Finley or any other defense lawyer would drive a Mack truck through it. So, why open your flank up if you`re the prosecutor with that.

You`ve got so much stuff. I mean, this woman is basically hanging herself with her testimony. The jury is obviously skeptical based upon their questions and some of her answers I think basically she stepped on the rake and has really gone down.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Fred, I understand what you`re saying. I`m not saying the prosecution should use that theory. I`m just saying nobody has really connected this phone sex tape to the killing. They are all using it as an example of their sex life, but they haven`t really put together. This was -- what are the chances, Anahita, of somebody coincidentally making a sex tape and the gun goes off less than a month later as they kill them in self defense.

ANAHITA SEDAGHATFAR, CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Jane, I don`t know the psychology of why she did this but the fact of the matter is Jodi and Travis`s relationship is directly related to this case. This is a self defense case. And wow, that sex tape is powerful. That is probably the person`s only time those jurors are going to hear from Travis Alexander`s own mouth.

And what kinds of things is he saying that he`s fantasizing about 12- year-old girls? That he wants his girlfriend to feel like she was raped? I mean, the defense is hoping that this will make the jurors not like Travis. And it might not lead to an acquittal but it certainly may take death off the table.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right, ten seconds for Fred to respond.

TECCE: No, I -- I`m sorry, I disagree. I mean, this woman has run this guy down. She`s already admitted that she enjoyed this stuff. She already admitted she initiated a lot of it. She`s already told the jury that she had no fear the day she killed him. She slipped up with that. And I`m sorry, the only evidence that she was abused are her words and her diary and her phone records and nothing else backs it up. I`m sorry, she`s a path logical liar.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: She doesn`t write that she was beaten or anything of that nature.

All right, don`t forget Jodi is back on the stand tomorrow. We are all over it. You can get all of it tonight right here at 7:00 p.m. eastern. You will not miss a moment. And we`re just getting started breaking down this case with our expert panel and Travis`s dear friend, Pam Larson.

Stay right there.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Did you enjoy having sex with Travis?

ARIAS: For the most part, yes, I did. Very much. He cared about my pleasure as well. There were things that I was uncomfortable with. Having sex on the hood of a car. Little red riding hood fantasy, that it would involve sex.

You`re bad. You make me feel so dirty.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Would it be fair to say that he had an all access pass to your body?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ARIAS: Sometimes we would argue and if sex followed that, immediately after the argument, it signaled the end of the argument. There were times like when the fight -- I left and he called me to come back and I came back and we had sex and we were done fighting. So it changed the mood, the atmosphere, the energy, and it put him in a better mood.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Jodi Arias redefining makeup sex and she is back on the stand tomorrow for day 18 on the witness stand. Now, some have criticized prosecutor Juan Martinez for his very aggressive questioning style. But that technique, that very technique could have helped him win a similar death penalty trial.

In that case Wendy Andriano, the woman we are about to show was found guilty of murdering her terminally ill husband. She poisoned, stabbed, beat and slit her cancer-stricken husband`s throat. So there`s similarities there. There she is.

Like Jodi, she took the witness stand and claimed it was in self defense but the jury didn`t buy it and she is now one of three women on Arizona`s death row.

Jean Casarez, tell us what you know about Arizona`s death row for women.

JEAN CASAREZ, LEGAL CORRESPONDENT, IN SESSION: Well, you know when someone is convicted and sentenced to death, there`s an automatic appeal and it can take years. And there`s a lot of variables. But I called up the department of corrections today because I was interested in what is the average. Between the time of sentencing to death row and execution, what is the average number of years? They told me it is 12, 12 years.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, that is very significant in my book because a lot of people, I think, even if there is a death penalty, you`ve heard so many stories about people being on death row for decades and decades and decades and getting older and older that it has sort of lost its ability maybe to inspire terror of, oh, my God, this could happen to me.

So, I want to go back to our expert panel. I`m shocked actually that it`s only 12 years. Fred Tecce, you`re a former prosecutor. That means this is a very rare possibility if she`s convicted and sentenced to death, that this woman could get lethal injection.

TECCE: Yes, it is. In Colorado, you know, we see certain states like that. I mean, look at Florida. I mean, it`s a real possibility. And I think that`s why you see her on the witness stand fighting for her life. You see her lawyers trying to do everything they can to spare her life, because in this instance it`s a real possibility.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Anahita, your thoughts.

SEDAGHATFAR: I disagree that it`s a real possibility here. Look, I think that Jodi Arias taking the stand perhaps saved her life because, you know, whether or not the jurors believe her or think she`s telling the truth or not, she has formed some type of bond with those jurors. She has been humanized.

LEIBERMAN: Humanized as a liar. I mean, humanized liar. What gives you the impression --

SEDAGHATFAR: Let me finish. It`s going to be very hard -- remember, it only takes one of those jurors. I think once those jurors relate to her or view her as a human and not just some theoretical defendant, it makes it much more difficult for those jurors to sentence her to death. So quite frankly her being on the stand for 18 days or 19 days benefits her more than anything else.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wait. Obviously the two gentlemen for the prosecution don`t believe it. Go ahead, Drew.

FINLEY: Yes, Jane, two things. First let`s get out of the way that going for the death penalty is a deterrent. Anybody that has prosecuted, investigated, defended, spent time with people that kill other people, no, it`s not a deterrent. That`s not the issue.

As far as how long it takes, look at the length of this case and the complexity of its appeal. Those of us that try cases know had this not been a death case, this baby would have been wrapped up in two weeks. But because of the issue of aggravation and mitigation and residual doubt, this judge has to let in all of this what is really nonsense because it`s going to be reviewed for years to come. All they had to do is not go for death and this would have been a two-week trial and maybe she would have got life imprisonment.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Ten seconds, Jon Leiberman, you can respond.

LEIBERMAN: Well, but this prosecutor and his prosecutor`s office clearly thought that death and first degree was a viable option. And I want to point out. I studied the other case with Mr. Martinez. He used the exact same strategy and it worked. Digging in is the details, digging into the lies and that`s what he`s done in this case.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: On the other side, a mug shot that basically blows up a conspiracy theory that Jodi Arias` supporters were pushing. We broke it here yesterday. We have new information on the other side.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We go out in the desert shooting. He is always shooting my guns. I was at his house one week before he was murdered. He did not own a gun.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: 0.25 auto just happens to be the same caliber as the weapon used to kill him.

ARIAS: And I turned around and pointed it at him.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: So he doesn`t usually talk about this in his motivational speeches at prepaid legal that in 2002, his identity was stolen and he was alerted that he had spent time in jail and he had not and he ended up clearing this up.

I did a little six keeper today and sit for more research and spoke or communicated with some of the victims` family and it turns out this was actually a member of the family who was involved in some problems at the time and actually used his brother`s identity or Travis`s identity and it wasn`t actually him. And they actually have proof of this. So the records that they`re coming up with now are actually false.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ARIAS: And that`s breaking news. Here we have this just-released mug shot of Travis Alexander`s brother, Dennis. And he was the one who was actually arrested. But he used, allegedly, purportedly, Travis Alexander`s name, his brother`s name.

And so what happened was that we broke this story yesterday. Supporters of Jodi Arias somehow found this criminal case report and put it up on you tube with music attached to imply that Travis Alexander, the man killed by Jodi Arias, had a criminal past as a batterer because this criminal case report said battery, convicted of battery. And it says Travis victor Alexander. But as you can see from that mug shot, it wasn`t Travis Alexander, the man who was killed by Jodi Arias, it was his brother.

Jon Leiberman, explain if you will, why this is, well, sort of dirty pool.

LEIBERMAN: Well, yes. And I think all of us on the panel can agree this is so irrelevant and such a low blow by Jodi Arias` supporters. I mean, at the end of the day you just said it, you have his brother who used Travis`s name during an arrest and conviction. Number one, it was a misdemeanor. I don`t believe even if it were Travis it would have shown very much at all. Number two, nobody ever tried to admit this into court because they knew it was bogus, they knew it wasn`t Travis Alexander.

So in my opinion it`s simply a low blow Arias` supporters. They know they don`t have anything else so they take to the internet to assassinate the real victim in this case, assassinate him for a second time and that`s exactly what you saw, nothing more than a character assassination.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Let`s go to the phone lines. Do we still have Carolyn from Connecticut?

CAROLYN, CALLER, CONNECTICUT: Hi, Jane, yes, I`m here. Thanks for taking my call. I love your show and everything you do for animals.

I wanted to actually talk tonight about the gas can that Jodi claims to have returned to the Wal-Mart in Salinas, California. It`s been bothering me and so I decided to call that actual Wal-Mart myself in Salinas, California, and speak to the customer service department hypothetically about their return policy. And I asked them about if someone purchases something in cash, which we know Jodi purchased this can in cash, because we saw the receipt that Juan Martinez showed in court, I said, what`s your policy about returning and refunding the item? And they told me that as long as a receipt is provided with the item to return, they will return and give the cash back. But the receipt has to be there.

Also they said that on that receipt they will usually circle the item that`s being returned and initial it. One of the clerks in customer service initials it. Now, if you remember, that receipt that they showed did not have anything marked on it about that gas can.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wow, Carolyn. I want to say you have got a second career as a detective! And I love that you did that kind of research to find out what the real story is on this gas can.

On the other side Jean Casarez, who knows so much about this case, is going to give us the 411 on the significance of the gas cans. Remember we`re less than 24 hours away from the return of Jodi Arias to the stand. Prosecutor Juan Martinez is going to grill her again, skewer her again. We are going to debate that on the other side, how long that should go on.

And tonight at 8:00, Nancy Grace Mysteries, the state strikes back, a look at the case being made by prosecutor Juan Martinez. Nancy at the top of the hour and we have more right on the other side.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: On June 10th, 2008, police begin their search of Travis Alexander`s home. His bathroom is covered in blood. It`s pooled outside the shower, splattered and smeared all over the sink and bathroom mirror. There`s a bloody palm printing on one of the walls.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JODI ARIAS, ON TRIAL FOR MURDER OF TRAVIS ALEXANDER: When I finally came to I saw that there was blood on my hands.

JUAN MARTINEZ, PROSECUTOR: And you enjoyed the tootsie pops and pop rocks, correct?

You think that the braids are hot, don`t you?

ARIAS: I think cute is more appropriate.

TRAVIS ALEXANDER, MURDER VICTIM: I love the braids.

Arias: They`re hot.

MARTINEZ: What in the world gave you the right to go talk to an ex- boyfriend who according to you you`d broken up with? What right do you have to do that?

ALEXANDER: I`m going to tie you to a tree and put (EXPLETIVE DELETED).

MARTINEZ: You were jealous, right?

ARIAS: He was trying to court me back.

I confessed --

KURT NURMI, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: You what?

ARIAS: Confessed -- and I could hear him -- I could hear his footsteps chasing me. I didn`t want him to grab me again and he`s just screaming angry. He said I`ll (EXPLETIVE DELETED) kill you (EXPLETIVE DELETED).

(END VIDEO CLIP)

JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, HLN HOST: Tonight a shocking, really jaw- dropping new theory of why Jodi Arias recorded that triple x-rated, now infamous phone sex tape on May 10th, 2008, less than a month before she killed Travis Alexander on June 4th, 2008. Was it in fact a trophy? Did she know way back on May 10th that she was going to kill Travis Alexander? Had she already started concocting her plot? Was this the first step in the plot?

Let`s listen to the phone tape and then we`re going to talk to the friend of Travis Alexander`s who has advanced this theory. We`re going to talk to her live. Listen to the tape.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ALEXANDER: There`s been many times when you have been like miserable and I`ve like raped you.

NURMI: Is that fantasy or is that reality?

ARIAS: That`s reality, but he doesn`t mean like rape like how the law defines it, I don`t think.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Now, our expert panel of prosecution and defense did not think that this was part of the murder plot, but Pam Larson, you knew Travis Alexander. You worked with him. You also met Jodi Arias and you say she creeped you out. So maybe you have to know Jodi to think that it`s possible that she knew that she was going to kill him way back on May 10th and recorded this as the first step. Tell us again your theory and why you think she did this.

PAM LARSON, FRIEND OF TRAVIS ALEXANDER: Well, like I said, I believe that Travis didn`t know about it because for one thing she kept saying -- she said that he kept asking her to do it and she didn`t or she didn`t save it or whatever. So when she`s doing it, why wouldn`t he have said are you recording it? And then -- but I think she did it because she knew she was going to Mesa. And she knew that he was taking someone else to Cancun. And I believe that she thought no matter what, she could always hold that against him and have girlfriends or future girlfriends listen to that tape and see what she thought Travis was like.

But also I really think that she thought that she knew she was going to kill him if things didn`t go her way, and she would literally always be able to have sex with Travis, because she did not think she would ever get caught.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, it`s a fascinating theory. And psychologist Seth Meyers of the L.A. Bureau, listen, it sounds farfetched to think that somebody would record a phone sex tape because they were going to kill somebody and then they would be able to play it later but this entire case is completely insane. I mean you`re hearing things every single day, every single minute and I`m sure we`ll hear more tomorrow that will bring you right here that just leave you in shock.

So I would think it`s shocking that somebody record a phone sex tape and the other person doesn`t know about it because prosecutors say she did this secretly even though she claims he asked her to. And the idea that she would literally -- I hope I can say this -- climax, pretend to climax. She said she was pretending on this tape knowing it`s been recorded. What does that say about her?

SETH MEYERS, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: Well, I think it obviously shows that she has moments of using extremely poor judgment. I think she`s very impulsive. I think she`s very spontaneous. Her emotions are really kind of too big for her to handle. So she makes a lot of decisions in a split moment and later she very well may regret them.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes. She very may well regret all of this because she`s facing the death penalty.

Tomorrow night 10:00 p.m. on HLN we premiere a brand new series, "HLN AFTER DARK". It`s all about the unpredictable Jodi Arias trial that has captured the nation`s attention. I`ll join Vinnie Politan, Nancy Grace, Dr. Drew and Ryan Smith as we come together to dissect the day in court. Where is this case going? We`re going to do it in front of a live audience doubling as the jurors, "HLN AFTER DARK" a new series tomorrow at 10:00 p.m. Hope you join us for that.

It`s a new conversation that`s going to dig in from day one from a night time perspective.

Now, coming up, a beautiful young teacher vanishes after a night out in New Orleans. We`re going to talk to her desperate mom and try to help her solve this mystery. You`ll hear all the details. Maybe you can help us solve it next.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TONY ENCLADE, MOTHER OF TERRILYN MONETTE: No one can understand how I feel right now. I just want my baby back. I want her home. I want her home.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: We`re all over the Jodi Arias trial and we`re bringing you the latest on other big stories. James Holmes, the man accused of killing 12 people and injuring 58 in the Aurora movie theater massacre back in court today.

Check out his bushy beard. Compare that to the orange hair he had the first time we saw him. His attorneys tried to delay the hearing. The judge refused and entered a not guilty plea for him. Prosecutors will decide whether to seek the death penalty at an April 1st hearing.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ENCLADE: I can`t imagine anyone that would take her away from us.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: A second grade teacher disappeared over a week ago in New Orleans.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We`re not going to stop looking for her so you might as well let her go.

ENCLADE: I just want everybody to know that we really appreciate the support that they`re showing us. There`s total emptiness in my life right now. I miss my daughter so, so much.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Right now a family`s desperate search in New Orleans for a beautiful young elementary schoolteacher who seemingly vanished into thin air after a night on the town with friends. 26-year-old Terrilyn Monette told a friend she was going to take a little nap in her car rather than drive home and now she and her car both missing. Terrilyn disappeared 11 long days ago. Surveillance tape shows she was in the parking lot of a bar at around 5:00 in the morning on March 2nd.

She had just been nominated for teacher of the year and was celebrating. Terrilyn allegedly told her friends she had a little too much to drink and she wanted to take a nap before driving home. But surveillance tape shows Terrilyn talking to an unidentified man in the parking lot before they both left in separate cars.

Here`s Terrilyn`s desperate mom talking about this search.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ENCLADE: They haven`t ruled out anything yet. So like I said, they`re continuing to search. They`re continuing the investigation. I can`t close my eyes.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I want to go right now to Toni Enclade (inaudible) the mother of this missing teacher. Toni, I want to thank you for joining us. My heart goes out to you. I know that this is hellish. I know that you`re going through hell right now and we feel your pain. We want to help.

What have police told you about this case? What do you know about this mystery man that your daughter was talking to before she vanished?

ENCLADE: I have no idea. I haven`t been given any information, any names or anything. I would like to know myself who is this unidentified man. As far as her being in a car sleeping, I can`t believe that. She`s never slept in her car. She`s not comfortable unless she`s in her own bed.

I think a lot of this stuff is speculation. And if so, I would love to know the individuals that did see her sleeping in her car and did nothing about it.

(CROSSTALK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Have police told you anything? Are they keeping you up to date on what they`re finding?

ENCLADE: Well, all I`ve been told is that Equusearch is coming out this evening and is supposed to assist them in looking for Terrilyn, looking for Terrilyn`s car.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, that`s excellent news.

ENCLADE: Yes.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: You are lucky. Texas Equusearch, a famous search organization that helped search for little Caylee Anthony during that case and they bring out thousands of people, they comb the area. We are also understanding -- and I`ll bring in Jon Leiberman for this, you`re an investigative reporter -- police say they cannot depend on Terrilyn`s cell phone records because the battery died hours before she left the bar. That`s not good news, because that`s a key tool.

JON LEIBERMAN, HLN CONTRIBUTOR: No, it`s not good news at all. We do know right now police are re-canvassing that area and they are re- interviewing not only the people who were working at the bar that night but also these friends that Terrilyn was apparently with as well.

Her mom touched on a couple good points because the story just doesn`t add up. Police are really trying now to put together the surveillance images they have with the witness accounts that they have to try and find this young woman. And also her car, which is a big clue as well.

They`re also looking at nearby roadways to see if they can get any other surveillance images of the car, where the car may have gone. Was this young lady perhaps carjacked, taken against her will in her own car? There are a lot of scenarios, but people need to look out for this woman.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right. We`re not done. We`re not done. We want to help this young woman and her devastated mother. Stay right there, on the other side we`ve got more information just coming in.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I am just so filled with joy right now that so many people in this city care so much to come out and try to find one of our co-workers, one of our family members.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And time for Pet o` the Day. Fendi -- very glamorous, tres chic, look at that the off-the-shoulder look. Bonbon -- he`s saying I just want by bonbons, please, leave me alone. Miss willow and Mr. Lakota, what a team -- where are you going making a scene. Going to a party? Honey says I`m just going to stay home and sleep tonight, thanks anyway for the invite.

BRITTANY MONETTE, SISTER OF MISSING TEACHER: We get tired. Sometimes we get sad. We get frustrated at whoever took our sister. But everybody just keeps us going, keeps us having that faith that she`s alive, she`s coming back.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Where is that young woman`s sister? Terrilyn Monette disappeared more than a week ago. She was possibly just about to get teacher of the year award. She`s nominated and she was celebrating in New Orleans. No cell phone, her car hasn`t even been discovered.

Police we`ve learned -- we just learn police have interviewed the man Terrilyn was last seen talking to on surveillance tape outside the bar where she was celebrating. They will not say if he is a man of interest. But certainly that`s a good clue. And I want to say if you have any information, I`m begging you to call the New Orleans police.

I want to go to Toni Enclade, the mother of this missing teacher. Toni, what has this been like for you?

ENCLADE: This has been something that I would have never imagined happening in my life. I`ve seen it on TV before and I just would have never thought that this would have happened in our life -- in myself, in my daughter`s life. She`s just such a sweet person.

Words can`t explain how I feel. I`m sitting here right now in disbelief. I`m hurting so much on the inside. I can`t even explain how I feel. For my relationship with my daughter, we`re so close, we talk every day and it`s -- now it`s hard. I can`t even go to bed at night knowing that -- knowing that I`m not even going to get to say goodnight to her and tell her that I love her.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I`m so sorry.

ENCLADE: Every time I think about her and I -- I just wonder is she ok. It`s just so hard -- so hard. This is just the worst thing that could ever happen to a mother.

(CROSSTALK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: We`re going to try to help find your daughter. We`re going to do everything we can, ma`am. And our hearts go out to you, our prayers, our thoughts and our efforts will be to find your beautiful daughter. I`m so sorry that you`re going through this. I`m so sorry.

ENCLADE: Thank you. Thank you.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: We`ll keep you updated on this case.

ENCLADE: Thank you so much. Thank you.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Time now for "Rico`s Rescues", right, little Rico?

Let`s save some lives. Huh, Rico? Rico. Rico. Hey, Rico. Rico. Hey, Rico.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Hey Rico. Tonight I want to introduce you to two amazing dogs, Chico and Jack. Two Australian cattle mixes, best buddies and they share an inseparable bond. Chico is blind. He relies on Jack to guide him as his seeing eye dog. And Jack happily sticks by his side.

Straight out to Erica Jenkins, adoption counselor at the Max Fund Animal Shelter in Denver, Colorado, where Jack is currently living. I know you want to find a home where both of these wonderful dogs can stay together, one leading the other. They need each other, they love each other.

Tell us about these fabulous dogs as we show some more video.

ERICA JENKINS, ADOPTION COUNSELOR, MAX FUND ANIMAL SHELTER (via telephone): They`re just wonderful, you know. Chico`s just so sweet. They got to the shelter about, let`s see, it was the 31st of December and they came in and Chico was just the biggest nuzzler. He`ll just stick his head right under your arm and just wants to love you. Jack is equally sweet.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Erica, how does one dog guide the other who is blind? Tell us about that?

JENKINS: Well, you know, we kind of are trained to figure that out. We think that Chico just kind of uses his scent and just -- he`s always right behind him which is interesting. We don`t really know how it works but it seems to work for them.

Chico gets around really well. He does run into stuff every now and then but we think that`s kind of his way of finding out where everything is. You know.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, yes. You can tell he doesn`t have any eyes. You can tell he`s best buds with the one in the front, who does have eyes. And I`ve seen this with horses. I adopted a blind horse who used a sighted horse as a guide.

Animals help each other. We have so much to learn from animals.

So Rico, I know you want to see these guys adopted into a loving home. If you`re interested, please contact the Max Fund Animal Shelter directly. You can call 720-266-6081, visit maxfund.org or just go to my Facebook page, JaneVelezMitchell/Facebook, we`ve got all the information there.

Rico, you`re lucky, you have a nice home. We want to find homes for those two wonderful little guys.

Guess what; Nancy Grace is up next. Right Rico?
