George Clooney OK After Motorcycle Accident; Richards/Sheen Battle Continues

Aired September 25, 2007 - 23:00:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

BROOKE ANDERSON, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: Kiefer Sutherland arrested and a death during production of the new Batman movie. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.
On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, Charlie strikes back. Tonight, the nasty divorce of Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards gets nastier. The shocking new accusations and now even Charlie`s new fiancee is getting into the act. Tonight, what Charlie is saying now about those porn and sex accusations. And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT asks, with their kids caught in the middle, why can`t Charlie and Denise keep their dirty laundry to themselves?

Tonight, why you can`t keep Clooney down. George Clooney`s brave public appearances after his scary motorcycle accident, bandaged up, as dashing as ever and talking to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GEORGE CLOONEY, ACTOR: I still had to go to work today. If you go to work, you got to show up.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: We`re curious, George. Is this precisely the reason we love you? Will the woman on crutches walk George away from the bachelor line. Tonight, how even a motorcycle accident can`t keep Clooney down.

Hi there, everyone. I`m Brooke Anderson and this is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City. A.J. has the night off. Tonight, a possible scary journey will take place as we take you inside the mind of Britney Spears. From her car accident that she seemed to ignore and that has led to charges filed against her, to her endless partying; why does Britney act the way she does? A SHOWBIZ special report is coming up.

First, Charlie Sheen strikes back. Tonight, the biggest sitcom star on TV is not laughing, and has come out with a jaw-dropping response to his ex-wife Denise Richards. And get this; even Charlie`s fiancee has thrown herself into the middle of their bitter battle over their children. Tonight SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the startling brand new information.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The couple, how long have they been together? How did they met?

CHARLIE SHEEN, ACTOR: Fine, I met you in Thailand and bought you from a guy.

ANDERSON (voice-over): "2 1/2 Men`s" Charlie Sheen, star of TV`s top rated comedy is also co-starring in an on-going real life drama, his custody battle with ex-wife Denise Richards over their two adorable toddlers, three year old Sam and two year old Lola.

MIKE FLEEMAN, PEOPLE.COM: It does have all the elements of a very unsavory soap opera.

ANDERSON: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you the Richards/Sheen battle has now hit a new low in ugliness. So ugly Denise is accusing Charlie of pornography. So ugly, Sheen`s new fiancee is now going after his ex. And so ugly, get this, even the feds are allegedly getting involved.

FLEEMAN: Both are making very incendiary allegation, very personal allegations. It`s very dirty. It is a brawl right now.

ANDERSON: The latest bitter barrage in this on going battle has just been fired by Charlie Sheen. He`s livid over a recent filing Denise submitted to a Los Angeles superior court that was leaked to the media. Once again, she`s accusing the one-time Hollywood bad boy of a bad porn habit, where she says Sheen indulges in, quote, an attraction to underaged women.

FLEEMAN: She`s saying that he is not -- does not have the behavior that is becoming of a father.

ANDERSON: Now Sheen is firing back big time. In a brand new statement obtained by SHOWBIZ TONIGHT he writes, quote, "I will not dignify the majority of these allegations set forth by Denise Richards with any measure of response. On its best day, it remains laughable and inane."

SHEEN: It`s just words. It has no basis in reality.

ANDERSON: In a recent interview with "Access Hollywood`s" Tony Potts, Sheen reacted to Richards` shocking claim soon after they were first made public.

SHEEN: It`s -- it`s baseless. It`s entirely baseless. If any of this nonsense were in any way accurate, then I wouldn`t have had any access to the children or her for the past year and a half.

ANDERSON: Now, in a startling move, Sheen is bringing in the feds, trying to use the FBI to prove he`s not a computer porn freak. He says, quote, "the FBI was aware of these issues. I provided them with every computer I owned. The computers were returned two weeks later. Haven`t heard from them since, period, the end."

He continues, quote, "I have asked that the court eliminate Ms. Richards ability to abuse and harass us any longer. One can only imagine what we`ve withstood thus far."

FLEEMAN: Charlie has taken the position that the best defense is a good offense and the second he feels threatened, he`s gone against her and gone very, very public.

ANDERSON: Now, even Sheen`s fiancee, Brook Mueller (ph), is getting in middle of this whole sordid mess. The couple was the picture of happiness when I caught up with them at the Emmy awards.

SHEEN: We love each other and want to hang out until we die.

ANDERSON: Along with Charlie, Mueller has now just released her own statement, going after Charlie`s ex, writing, quote, "there are huge concerns about how Denise`s emotions are impacting her judgment."

For now, a court has ordered that Sheen and his new lady love can`t be with his daughters without a nanny employed by Denise Richards. Sheen is accusing those nannies of spying for his ex-wife.

FLEEMAN: Charlie says in this statement that look, Denise didn`t have a problem with any of my behavior until I started asking for something, and that something was the ability to pick his own nannies and not use hers.

ANDERSON: But "People Magazine`s" Mike Fleeman tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT Denise is sticking to her guns.

FLEEMAN: She doesn`t want Charlie with the children overnight unless there`s some kind of a protection in place.

ANDERSON: So for now, the Charlie-Denise smack down has no end in sight, as all sides engage in a bitter cycle of leaked court documents and bitter public statements.

FLEEMAN: Something gets leaked. It gets out there. The other has to respond, the other responds to the response.

ANDERSON: And the result, no one comes out ahead.

FLEEMAN: You know, you throw enough mud and both sides are going to get dirty. And in the end, you have to ask yourselves, is this really good for the children?

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Yes, Mike Fleeman got that right. There is so much mud slinging here that nobody is looking clean. With me tonight in Burbank, "Access Hollywood`s" Tony Potts, who broke the latest en Denise Richards` explosive claim. Tony, good to see you. We just heard plenty, but we haven`t heard it all. Another shocking claim in Charlie`s explosive statement is this: "Shortly before unleashing her attack, Ms. Richards asked for another baby by a sperm donation, after her divisive attempt at a reconciliation behind Brooke`s back failed. She was flat out rejected."

Tony, you know this case better than anyone. Are we hearing that right, that Charlie is saying that Denise Richards wanted his sperm after their divorce? And a bitter divorce that?

TONY POTTS, "ACCESS HOLLYWOOD": Here`s what I can tell you. I`ve read almost all of this and I don`t find that in there anywhere. A lot of claims are going back and forth on this one. I can tell you, I have e- mails -- you talked earlier, why is Brooke involved? I have an e-mail right here from Brooke to Denise. And Brooke has responded with these e- mails. There`s an e-mail from Brooke to Denise.

And you know, Denise, she`s -- Brooke`s responding to Denise`s emails, saying look, if Denise really wants me to reveal everything in the e-mails, I will do so. I think that`s why she`s coming to Charlie`s defense.

Back to the points of the kids, the good thing about this is the kids are three and two. So the mud that`s being slung, so to speak, is not hitting them in school or junior high school, if they were older. Also, back to the point made earlier in the piece. The question remains, if this is Charlie`s behavior and Denise knew about this, and you`re married to him, why in the world would you bring kids into this, if there was any problem back then at all?

So, a ton of mud and 230-some pages of lord knows what in here.

ANDERSON: Hopefully the mudslinging will stop before those kids get much older, get to be school age. Tony, this has been going on over a year now. I want to listen to what Sheen told you exclusively when this first began, explaining at the time why he didn`t want to go public with all this dirty laundry.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SHEEN: I can`t descend into that cesspool. It`s just -- it`s -- I`ve never been that guy and I`m not going to become that guy. I`m not going to be forced -- even if I`m perceived as that guy. I can`t go there. This isn`t about, you know, launching my own smear campaign. This is about my children.

(END VIDEO CLIP

ANDERSON: He`s going there now, Tony. You know, it seems to me that he`s really done an about-face and launched his own counter attack. Do you think that he is just mad as hell and can`t take it anymore?

POTTS: I would think, as a father who is trying to see his daughters, as he told me, and he is having problems doing that, on the other side, as he claims. I think he is mad as hell. Look, in that interview that you just saw with me, he openly admitted to his past transgressions, you know, the hookers, the drugs and all that stuff. So, he wasn`t saying, look, I`ve been an angel. But now I`m a father, and I just want to see my daughters. When I seem to ask for more time, what have you, these kind of things come out.

On the flip side, Denise is looking at this, saying, look, I just want to protect my daughters and do what I can. That`s understandable as well. This may not be over until maybe 2008.

ANDERSON: My goodness. It`s like some bizarre script for a movie. You know, as we mentioned, another character enters, the fiancee. And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT obtained a statement from Brooke Mueller. She`s taking on Denise, saying, quote, there are huge concerns about how Denise`s emotions are impacting her judgment. Denise urged me to be open to having a friendship with her. After our relationship was established she tried to get Charlie to father another child and to reconcile with her."

Tony, as we said, this is really nasty. Do you think it`s really necessary for her to get in the middle of it? I know she wants to defend Charlie, but is it necessary.

POTTS: Only necessary if she has documents that can back up whatever side is claiming. That`s key. And I think that`s what the judge will look at, will look at these e-mails back and forth between Denise and Brooke. You can see at points in here, they are very friendly, the two women back and forth. She`s trying to understand Charlie. Denise is trying to help her understand Charlie and his moods, and what have you. I think it will be germane to whatever happens in the case what Brooke knows and what Brooke has seen in the house when Charlie`s with the kids.

ANDERSON: It is such a sordid mess and it just seems (INAUDIBLE) that there is no way out for a long time to come, unfortunately. "Access Hollywood" correspondent Tony Potts, always good to see you. Thanks so much.

POTTS: My pleasure.

ANDERSON: And hey, Congrats on your new show, "Celebrity Expose," right, debuts on My Network TV October 8th.

POTTS: Yes, October 1st it starts. And every Monday after that. The first one up is Lindsay Lohan.

ANDERSON: All right, we will talk to you on Thursday right here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT about that first episode. Thanks, Tony.

POTTS: You`re welcome.

ANDERSON: Now we want to hear from you. It`s our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day; divorce war; should Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards just shut up? Vote, CNN.com/SHOWBIZTONIGHT. Send us e-mail to SHOWBIZTONIGHT@CNN.com.

George Clooney speaks about his motorcycle accident.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CLOONEY: Didn`t see it coming. Suddenly we were sideways.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: It`s takes a lot more than a motorcycle wreck to keep George Clooney down. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT catches up with George on the red carpet and he shows us why we love him. And will the woman on the crutches take him away from his confirmed bachelor hood? That`s coming up.

Also, Kiefer Sutherland gets busted on DUI charges. And he could be looking at some jail tome. We`re going to tell you what happened straight ahead.

And coming up at 30 past the hour, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT takes you to the final frontier, inside the mind of Britney. Does Britney Spears even realize how bizarre her behavior seems to the rest of us? You don`t want to miss that. Stay with us.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CLOONEY: I still had to go to work today. If you got to work, you`ve got to show up. I`m proud of the film. I wanted to be here.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Ah, George Clooney, back to work. Looking fabulous as ever. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York and this is TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I have to tell you that George Clooney is the kind of guy other movie stars should pay attention to. He showed up at the premier for his new movie, "Michael Clayton," even though he and his girlfriend, Sarah Larson, were badly banged up from a really scary motorcycle accident.

CNN "American Morning" entertainment correspondent Lola Oggunaike spoke with Clooney at the premier and is with us tonight in New York. Also with us, editor at large for "Star Magazine," Julia Allison. Lola, Julia, welcome.

All right, Lola, on the red carpet last night you asked George about the accident where he and Sarah slammed into a car while on his motorcycle. Let`s hear has he had to say.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CLOONEY: Really got sort of hit in the back of the bike -- hit you on the leg. I didn`t really see it coming. Suddenly we were sideways. But you know it happens. I`ve been riding a long time. Gone down a few times. So it`s OK.

LOLA OGUNNAIKE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Not the ride your life?

CLOONEY: Yes, not the best ride.

SARAH LARSON, GIRLFRIEND OF GEORGE CLOONEY: That`s all right. I`ll still get back on the bike.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Of course she will. She`s dating George Clooney. Lola, he seems OK. What was your impression talking with him?

OGUNNAIKE: I just got the impression he was like, look, I fell. I`m up. I fractured a rib, yes. I`ve got some road burns. She broke a few toes. But I will ride again. And he seemed to be like, the show must go on. He`s a quintessential actor and he was just like -- I think he might have thought that it adds to his appeal, actually. It definitely worked for me. I was like, oh, he`s still hot. He`s working the red carpet. She`s hurt and they are still out here. And they seem to both say, hey, look, it happened. We`re OK and we will work and persevere nonetheless.

ANDERSON: Here we are. And you even poked him in that hurt rib, I saw. Did he even wince? He just took it in stride.

OGUNNAIKE: He took it in stride. I just had to touch him, Brooke!

(CROSS TALK)

OGGUNAIKE: Feel the broken rib. I`m sorry. I just was overcome.

ANDERSON: He seemed to be all right with it, though.

OGGUNAIKE: Yes, he`s so witty and he`s so charming. Again, he took it all in stride.

ANDERSON: Yes. He is so charming. You know, there are so many movie stars out there who act like they are being put out by having to do interviews and show up at their own premiere. Not George. Julia, he`s a real pro. Isn`t he?

JULIA ALLISON, "STAR MAGAZINE": He absolutely is. He`s beloved by the media. By all account, everyone who`s interviewed him has said he`s the smartest, best informed, most genial actor they`ve ever worked with. He`s well known for his intelligent and passionate polemics on various societal ills, his involvement in politics.

But he`s also legendary for his pranks. I think it`s his sense of humor that really gets people to be on his side. You know, yes, he`s great. He`s great looking. There are a lot of great looking actors. But the fact that he stands up time and time again against the diva-like behavior of celebrities is really something that`s unique about him.

ANDERSON: That`s right. Well, back to this accident. The police say they really can`t determine who was at fault. And Lola, you asked George about that. Let`s hear what he said.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

OGGUNAIKE: The guy who accidentally hit you is saying it`s your fault? You`re obviously saying it`s his fault. What do you think?

CLOONEY: It was an accident. You know? He made a left-hand signal, turning right, got us. You know -- going at a decent speed and, it`s an accident. I don`t -- you know -- I would imagine that -- Yes, I would imagine that it was no one`s fault.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Sounds like he`s pretty content with the fact that he and his girlfriend Sarah are OK. But America`s most desired bachelor also seems to be pretty content, Lola, with his new girlfriend. Doesn`t he?

OGUNNAIKE: Yes, this is really uncharacteristic for him. I mean, George Clooney, he`s a perennial bachelor. You never really see him out with anyone. He`s rumored to be dating people or he`s caught dating here and there. For him to walk the red carpet after this accident and be so out there and so public is really indicative of a change for him. I don`t think this is something he would have done before at all.

ANDERSON: Present her to the -- oh what is it, Julia?

ALLISON: I would beg to differ. He is pretty open about his romantic exploits. Now, he is known to be a gentleman. He treats women very well. But I don`t think that we`re going to -- he met Sarah in June at the premiere of his "Ocean`s 13" movie. But I don`t think we`re going to see a change. He is a confirmed bachelor. He`s very open about that. And he said time and time again, he doesn`t believe in marriage, and he`s very frank with the women he dates. So --

ANDERSON: At least he treats his women well, like you say. One big question tonight is whether George could be in trouble. He is here in New York shooting a new movie. And listen to what he told "The Today Show" about that.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CLOONEY: I`ve got a movie I`m shooting, and another one I`m scoring.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Bet they were real thrilled when they heard about the accident?

CLOONEY: Yes, I`m not supposed to be on a motorcycle.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I was going to say, that`s got to be in the contract.

CLOONEY: Yes, it is. I think I`m in trouble now.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Julia, get serious. This is George Clooney we`re talking about, not Lindsay Lohan. George isn`t going to be fired anytime soon?

ALLISON: Absolutely not. Everyone loves George Clooney. Are you kidding? You would be hard-pressed to find another actor that people want to work with more. And I think that that`s why he can joke about it, the way that perhaps a Britney or a Lindsay or a Paris couldn`t.

ANDERSON: Rights, he can be serious but he can also be very light- hearted. Julia Allison, thanks for being here. Lola Oggunaike, thanks as well. Great interview with George.

OGGUNAIKE: Thank you.

ANDERSON: Now we have some very sad news. The tragedy for the new Batman movie; there has been a death during production of "The Dark Night." We all the details of the accident coming up next.

Also, Kiefer Sutherland gets busted on DUI charges and could look at jail time. We`ll tell you what happened. Also this --

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: What kind of person wouldn`t realize this was going to be on TV and she had to be responsible and contact me?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: The woman whose car Britney Spears allegedly hit speaks out. Buckle your seat belts, because SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is taking you to a very scary place, inside the mind of Britney. I often wonder, does Britney even realize how bizarre her behavior seems to rest of us? You don`t want to miss that coming up in a SHOWBIZ special report. Stay with us.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Tonight, another name to add to the celebrity DUI roster; "24" star Kiefer Sutherland has been busted on drunk driving charges and it`s not the first time. Here`s Kiefer on the red carpet last night for a party in L.A. celebrating Fox`s a new show. Los Angeles police say Kiefer was pulled over at about 1:00 in morning for making an illegal u-turn and failed a sobriety test. He was booked on charges of driving under the influence and released on 25,000 dollars bail.

Kiefer is on probation after pleading no contest to DUI in 2004. So he could be facing some serious jail time here. He`s scheduled to appear in court on October 16th.

Tonight, tragedy involving the new Batman movie, "The Dark Night." A crew member has died in an accident. Warner Brothers says a technician was killed at a special effects facility outside London when a truck he was on hit a tree. The accident happened during a test run. It was not filmed and there were no actors involved. "The Dark Knight" stars Christian Bail (ph) as Batman. It is scheduled to come out next year.

In a statement to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, the studio says "Warner Brothers Pictures and the entire cast and crew of "The Dark Knight" are deeply saddened by this tragedy and their hearts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased."

Coming up, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT take you to the final frontier, inside the mind of Britney. Does Britney Spears even realize how bizarre her behavior seems to the rest of us? What could she possibly be thinking? That is next in a SHOWBIZ special report.

Also, (INAUDIBLE) says her "Heroes" castmates keeps her from going down the Britney path.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: They would all show up on my door step and drag me out by the scruff of my neck if I did anything like that.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: She is wise beyond her years. I had a very revealing chat with Hayden. It`s really great the way she has managed to stay grounded in the spotlight. She tells me how she does it, and has advice for Britney, straight ahead. You don`t want to miss it.

Why is Donald Trump going off on Dan Rather? Usually we talk about vicious things he says about Rosie O`Donnell. So what has Dan done to raise the ire of the Donald? That is coming up. Stay with SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. We`ll be right back.

(NEWS BREAK)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, Britney Spears out of control, but does she even care? The custody battle, the nonstop partying, and now she`s facing shocking news, criminal charges.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KIM ROBARD-RIFKIN, HIT & RUN VICTIM: What kind of person wouldn`t realize that this wasn`t going to be on TV, and she had to be responsible and contact me?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Tonight we just got to ask, does Britney think she`s above the law? Does she even realize what a mess she is? Trap on your seat belt, folks because I`m going inside the mind of Britney Spears. It`s a revealing SHOWBIZ TONIGHT special report.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It is 30 minutes past the hour. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. A.J. is off tonight and you are watching TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.

Tonight, a SHOWBIZ special report: "Inside the Mind of Britney Spears". Yeah, I know that sounds a little bit scary, but think about it. She`s in the middle of a bitter custody battle and despite a judge`s order to stay away from drugs and alcohol, she hasn`t stopped partying, even when the cameras are rolling.

Now she`s facing charges over a hit-and-run car accident. So why does she act the way she does? Does she even realize how out of control she is? Does she even care? Joining me tonight, from New York, author and commentator Keli Goff, from Hollywood, Ken Baker, managing editor for "USmagazine.com, and Ken Seeley, interventionist from A&E`s "Intervention".

Welcome to all of you.

As we all know, Britney is on the verge of losing her kids, but still we are seeing her partying. We`ve seen video of her allegedly hitting a car and nonchalantly walking away. She knows there are cameras following her every move.

Keli, if you could get inside Britney`s mind, who do you think she`d find she`s thinking?

KELI GOFF, AUTHOR, COMMENTATOR: Probably not very much, Brooke. I`d have to go and venture at this point. I think that probably any person who is told by a judge that, hey, you drink a bit too much. Who then proceeds to go out clubbing the next day, presumably to drink, is either at best not the brightest bulb on the lamppost, at worst not playing with a full deck.

ANDERSON: It`s completely mind-boggling to me that nothing seems to phase her. You know, she`s facing misdemeanor charge force that hit-and-run accident. Let`s listen to what Kim Robard-Rifkin, the woman whose car Britney allegedly hit, told CelebTV.com.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ROBARD-RIFKIN: What kind of person wouldn`t realize this wasn`t going to be on TV, and she to be responsible and contact me?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: OK, Britney was swarmed by the paparazzi when the accident happened. Ken Baker, USmagazine.com, help me understand what Britney might have been thinking. Do you think she was oblivious to the fact the video would inevitably get out?

KEN BAKER, USMAGAZINE.COM: Let`s just go through the facts of what we know. Last week a judge said that Britney is a habitual user of drugs and alcohol. Now, I`m not saying she was on drugs and alcohol the day she rammed into that car, but we do know that as a fact. The other thing we know is that Britney has been on self-destructive spiral for the last three or four years.

She increasingly makes really bad decisions and seemingly doesn`t care about the consequences. This is something we`ve seen just more and more. It all goes back to when she met Kevin Federline and she decided as an act of rebellion she was going to get married to Kevin Federline, and get pregnant, and show her mom and dad she was all on her own. All that rebellion has turned into a very toxic life for Britney Spears.

ANDERSON: It certainly has. And to that end, the consequences, she ultimately has to face -- and you know, other people, because of her actions. Ken Seeley, we know Britney has had a stint in rehab, there are many who are urging her to go back. Is she just so self-involved right now, in her problems, that in her mind, she can`t even see how her behavior affects other people?

KEN SEELEY, INTERVENTIONIST: I know, Brooke. We`re just realizing how sick she really is. It`s really sad to see all of these demonstrative behaviors going on with her and see how really sick she is. What has to happen is she has to go in and I`m hoping when she`s sees all the media pieces, and watching what we`re doing out there, she sees her behavior and says, "I don`t like this and I want to change". And she goes into treatment and for the right reasons versus going in for PR.

If she goes in and says I want to change my behavior and I don`t like the way I`ve been acting, that`s when the miracles will happen. But when you go in for PR reasons, say, oh, you know, like Lindsay and everybody else does it, it`ll lessen my legal consequence, then it doesn`t work. But if you go into to really want to change your behavior, and I`m hoping the media is her mirror. And she`s able to see that.

Because I remember back in the day when she had that spark in her eye and you just could love watching her jump up and down and when she was with Justin Timberlake and they just had has spark. He`s still going with hers (sic), and she just looked dead. Her soul looks dead.

ANDERSON: It does. I wish she would schedule a meeting you, Ken, because that would do her so much good. And speaking of that hit-and-run accident, whether or not she even thought to leave a note we`re not sure. Ultimately she did not leave one. But I want to go back to Kim Robard- Rifkin and another point she made, after seeing the video of the accident.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ROBARD-RIFKIN: It was bad enough that she hit my car, but when she got out and slammed her car door into mine. That was sort of slightly annoying. And then she went around shopping, doing her thing. It was simply like my car didn`t matter to her, my inconvenience didn`t matter to her.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Keli, what do you think? Do you think that in Britney`s mind she`s just another star who can do what she wants and doesn`t care who she hurts along the way?

GOFF: I mean, Brooke, you couldn`t make this stiff up. I think at this point, maybe we should sending her and O.J. Simpson up on a blind date, because they are two of the most dysfunctional people. I mean, who just keep finding train wreck after train wreck of their own making. That`s what`s so bizarre about this.

You know what I was thinking about Britney is usually with child stars, you have this amount of sympathy for them. Because they`ve had hard knocks, their parents have taken all their money, someone`s taken advantage of them. But no one`s alleging that, like the "Mickey Mouse Club", the Disney Channel was abusing these kids. You know, no one is alleging that.

I mean, Christine Aguilera and Justin Timberlake seem to be doing just fine. All of this seems to be of Britney`s making and that`s what`s really so bizarre about all of this. I`m not sure if it`s because she thinks she`s above everyone, but there`s clearly something is off there that she keeps self sabotaging.

ANDERSON: She seems to have spoiled and squandered one golden opportunity after another. And you know this accident just adds to what has become a very dramatic fall from grace for Britney.

Ken Baker, the headline on "US Weekly" cover is "Mommy`s Crying". Why do you think that Britney, in her head, may not be considering just laying low and avoiding all of the chaos that follows her?

BAKER: Well, everyone I`ve ever talked to, who knows Britney Spears well, says that she loves the attention. I`ll tell you what, if I could give some advice to Britney Spears it would be, get help. Get whatever medical help that you need to get healthy. But if you`re not going to get help; here`s what she should do. Hire her own camera crews and televise her own show, that she owns and produces and call it, "Britney 911". Because every time she goes outside of her house it`s endlessly entertaining. Time for her to make money off this.

ANDERSON: You`re right about that. Maybe people could watch and say, hey, here`s what I should not do. This is a lesson for everyone what not to do. Clearly the accident is minor compared to how Britney`s behavior is affecting her kids, most likely. Her former bodyguard swore under oath that he witnessed Britney doing drugs, although never in front of the kids. Let`s listen to what he told Matt Lauer on the "Today" show.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TONY BARRETTO, FMR. BRITNEY BODYGUARD: I`m not here to destroy Britney. I`m here for the kids. I`m here to speak out on their behalf, because of my frustrations at time when I worked for her, on not being able to protect them from her, and I have accomplished that now.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: We know that a judge has ordered Britney to undergo random drug testing after finding, quote, "habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol". Ken Seeley, given how Britney acts, with reckless abandon, really, do you think in her mind she is even worried about this?

SEELEY: No, not at all. And I guarantee you, it`s going to come back positive some day soon here. And when it does, she`s going have to face the consequences. But we`ve already experienced that with Whitney Houston. Look what happened to her. She went down that road for so many years. And right now, Britney could say, I don`t have to do that like Whitney did. I mean, Whitney`s doing well now. But now, let`s get her better now, instead of waiting 10 to 15 years down the road.

GOFF: I would say there`s one big difference, though, between Britney Spears and Whitney Houston, with all due respect, which is that Whitney Houston actually has some talent. And I think the problem in this situation for Britney, is that we all know that her -- sort of her biggest selling point hasn`t always really been her talent. It`s been more of her talent for getting attention.

At this point, getting so much of the wrong --

ANDERSON: She can dance, Keli. The girl can dance.

GOFF: Well, I -- did you see the MTV Video Music Awards?

ANDERSON: Prior to that. She used to be able to.

GOFF: I guess it`s open for debate. I don`t know.

ANDERSON: I`m saying, they both have talent, maybe in different ways, so there`s a comparison.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Different ways.

ANDERSON: Yes. I do want to say this, the bottom line is that she`s worth $100 million, her income, $700,000 a month. Keli, she`s just so rich she doesn`t care?

GOFF: Thanks for reminding me about that. Actually you just reminded me of something, which is that, you know, there was a part of me, for a bit there, that was feeling a bit of sympathy for Britney Spears. Then it dawned on me that she`s living about five tax brackets above me and pretty much everyone I know. And any sympathy that I had, oddly enough, miraculously faded away.

ANDERSON: You changed your mind. Keli Goff, Ken Baker, Ken Seeley, we will end it there. Thank you all for joining us.

BAKER: Thanks.

SEELEY: Thanks, Brooke.

ANDERSON: Yesterday we asked you folks on our "Question of the Day," Britney Spears` bodyguard`s drug claims, do you believe him? And 74 percent of you say, yes, you do believe him. And 26 percent of you say, no, you don`t. Here`s some of the e-mails we received.

Rebecca from West Virginia thinks, "It is obvious that she has a drug problem. She needs to grow up. Two children are being hurt by her actions.

But "S", just "S", from Arizona writes: "I think that Britneys` former bodyguard is bitter because he is no longer employed by Britney and he should get a life."

Well, "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere, she`s the cheerleader, remember? "Save the cheerleader, save the world." She has kept herself out of trouble, and I think it`s fabulous.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HAYDEN PANETTIERE, ACTRESS: They would all show up on my doorstep and drag me out by my the scruff of my neck if I did something like that.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: And if Hayden did get out of hand, her cast members would really her have it. Yeah, this cheerleader doesn`t need saving in real life. But she definitely has some advice that could save Britney Spears collapsing world. My revealing interview with Hayden, coming up.

Rosie O`Donnell was definitely not Donald Trump`s hero. And tonight he his ripping into Dan Rather. You won`t believe what he called him, straight ahead.

All right, so team mascots, they can get really annoying, right? All the little silly things they do. Tonight, one really earned his paycheck, because he helped stop a guy who ran out on the field. The absolutely unbelievable video is next.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PANETTIERE: I`m here to act. I`m here to do what I love to do. I`m here to create a show for people to enjoy. I`m not here to have my -- my -- you know, personal life everywhere. If I wanted to do that, I`d be on a reality show called "Hayden".

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: That is "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere. I really got her to open up about why she has been able to keep herself out of the spotlight. And why, well, messes like Britney Spears` can`t. My revealing interview with her in just a bit.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson.

All right. It`s time now for a story that made us say --

STUDIO CREW: "That`s Ridiculous!"

ANDERSON: Guys, all right. Who says team mascots aren`t good for anything? Check out this video out of Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas City Chiefs mascot K.C. Wolf -- look at this! -- helped capture a fan who decided to run on to the field, by belly flopping on him. By the way, the Chiefs were losing. But after this they got inspired, scored and ended up winning the game. Way to go, K.C. But acting hungry like a wolf on a football field, "That`s Ridiculous!"

Well, if I had to choose a mascot to represent smart, young Hollywood without a doubt it would be "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere. What an amazing young woman she is. She really has her act together. And Hayden opened up to me about how she deals with the constant pressure of the paparazzi. And she had fantastic insight into why Britney Spears just can`t seem to get her act together. And, of course, she is thrilled to be a part of the Emmy nominated hit show "Heroes", which kicked off its season premier Monday night.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON (on camera): Could you ever have imagined a year ago when the show premiered you would be sitting here now an Emmy nominated actress, talking about being on the hottest show on television?

PANETTIERE: No, no. Not in a million years I would never imagine my show would be nominated. We have an amazing time doing it. It`s quite an experience. And -- I don`t know, I think it has just made me look back at the past and seeing is all the ups and downs of my career, and be like thankful for every up and every down, because I might not be sitting here on the show.

ANDERSON: This is definitely an up time. Isn`t it?

PANETTIERE: This is definitely an up time, yes.

ANDERSON: What do you think is the magic of "Heroes" that really made it such a smash hit right out of the gate?

PANETTIERE: It`s a really interesting show. It`s eye candy for people. It`s got the action, the adventure, the special effects. But it`s also got these human stories, that people really bond with these characters. And that people really fall in love with and they learn to care for. And they kind of want to see where they`re going. Kind of like a -- reality show/soap opera, mixed with you know, "X Men" or -- things like that. It has a wonderful combination of everything that people really like to watch.

ANDERSON: Now that it`s been such a huge success, do you guys feel the pressure to be even greater and greater and greater?

PANETTIERE: I would think that most of the pressure is more on the writers, and our creator Tim Crane. They`ve never let us down. We have all the faith in the world in them, and they give us -- it`s definitely a -- you know, we both play our parts. They give us wonderful words to speak and we -- we try to bring these characters to life.

ANDERSON: Speaking of pressure, the paparazzi pressure. You know? A year ago the paparazzi didn`t really know you. And now you can`t take two steps without them swarming you. You know, at "Regis & Kelly" you were leaving on Monday, and it was a crush of paparazzi. How do you deal with that?

PANETTIERE: You know, you just -- keep your head up, your eyes down, and you just smile and you keep walking. And you know, you -- you try find all the ways possible to keep your personal life, personal. Because, you know, I`m here to act. I`m here to create a show for people enjoy. I`m not here to have my -- my, you know, personal life everywhere. If I wanted to do that I`d be on reality show called, you know, "Hayden" or something like that.

But, you know, you just try to -- you try to handle it. You know going into it that`s part of the job, that`s part of the deal. And you just try to go about your life and live it to the best you can.

ANDERSON: You know, Britney Spears started getting famous around the same age you are, and now she`s mid-20s, everyone loves Britney and hopes that she can turn her life around. But when you look at mistakes she`s made and Lindsay Lohan, and others, and do you worry about making those mistakes? You seem to have a great head on your shoulders.

PANETTIERE: Thank you. I don`t.

ANDERSON: Good.

PANETTIERE: I don`t, because I think that we kind of have to step back and take a good look at what really happened to them. And I think you can blame it -- almost more on the people surrounding her -- them -- than them themselves. You know? It`s people who fed the flame. People who -- who didn`t teach them properly and didn`t teach them love and didn`t teach them how to be smart, and how to respect yourself. And people who used them.

And, again, it`s the love thing. They feel like they need to find love, and be liked, but in the wrong way. I feel like they were very much used by friends, by people surrounding them, in order to get certain things. And they felt -- they felt loved by that, maybe. So -- I mean, I can`t speak for them. I can`t speak for them.

But from what I can see, it seems they`re just looking for love and attention and feelings like that, just in the wrong -- in the wrong places. But I`m very confident in the fact that I have amazing people surrounding me. I have an amazing family. I have amazing friends. My cast, who are all my family, and they would all show up on the doorstep and drag me out by the scruff of my neck if I did anything like that.

ANDERSON: That`s good to have those people --

PANETTIERE: They`d lock me in the room and, they`d like -- you`re not coming out -- ever!

(LAUGHTER)

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: And I am just getting started with Hayden Panettiere. I have more of my fascinating revealing interview with Hayden tomorrow. She tells us that even she has fat days. Oh, yeah. I know, hard to believe. Hayden opens up about Hollywood and body image, right here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. You don`t want to miss that. That`s tomorrow.

All right, so we all know Rosie O`Donnell is definitely not Donald Trump`s hero. He thinks that she`s, well, a zero! He wasn`t shy about calling her a loser. Now tonight, The Donald is at it again.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DONALD TRUMP: I think he feels left out. I think he feels like a loser, but that`s what he is.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Trump is on a rampage against Dan Rather. Why Trump is dissing the former CBS News anchor, next. Keep it here.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York.

So yesterday we had Donald Trump ripping into somebody again. No, it wasn`t Rosie O`Donnell. It was President Bush on CNN`s "Situation Room" with Wolf Blitzer, Trump called Bush the worst president ever. Ouch!

But wait, The Donald is not done. Tonight he`s going after former CBS News anchor Dan Rather. Take a listen to how Trump goes off to Wolf.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TRUMP: Dan Rather had low ratings for years. I used to say, whoever represents Dan Rather does a great job, because he always was in third place, he always had terrible ratings, and they wouldn`t fire him. Now finally they get smart and fire him, and he sues them. Explain it to me? I don`t get it.

WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR, THE SITUATION ROOM: Do you und why he`s doing this?

TRUMP: I think he feels left out. I think he feels likes a loser. But that`s what he is.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Oh, ouch again! Now, what Donald is referring to there is Dan Rather suing CBS for $70 million, claiming his former employer made him a, quote, "scapegoat to make the White House happy".

Rather left the anchor chair, and eventually CBS altogether, in 2005. That was after a scandal surrounding a report questioning President Bush`s military service. Now, we`ve reached out to Rather, his office said they have no comment on what The Donald said.

We`ve been asking you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day". Divorce war: Should Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards just shut up? Keep voting. CNN.com/showbiztonight. Write to us Showbiztonight@CNN.com. We`ll read some of your e-mails tomorrow.

It is time now to see what is coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Tomorrow a subject so sensitive, so controversial, and now Hollywood is cranking out a lot of movies about it. I`m talking about the Iraq war. But why now? What`s the motivation behind it? It`s a shocking investigation about war films, tomorrow.

Also tomorrow, more of my really revealing chat with "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere. Today we talked about staying out of trouble, Britney Spears. Tomorrow, Hayden opens up about Hollywood`s obsession with body image, her startling confessions and how important family is to her career.

That is a wrap for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Thanks so much for watching. I`m Brooke Anderson in New York. "Glenn Beck" is coming up next right after the latest headlines on CNN "Headline News". Take care.
