CNN LIVE AT DAYBREAK

Eye on the Sky: Air Travel Delays

Aired August 19, 2003 - 06:47   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Time now for that "Eye on the Sky." Travelocity's air traffic expert Rally Caparas live on the phone.
Any delays this morning -- Rally?

RALLY CAPARAS, AIR TRAFFIC SPECIALIST, TRAVELOCITY.COM: Good morning, Carol. Well, all the airplanes are where they are supposed to be and it looks like in the east, especially, we're going to see excellent flight conditions.

From Boston all the way down to the D.C. Metros and all of those major airports in between, you should see on-time flight schedules for a second consecutive day, good news, good news.

Atlanta and Charlotte, we'll see some low-lying clouds and some poor visibility as a result of the fog. That means 30 to 45-minute arrival delays this morning. Then there will be a break in the action, on-time schedules until later on during the evening rush. And then we could see some isolated thunderstorm activity blocking some flight routes and then we'll see those 30 to 45-minute arrival and departure delays, but nothing major here in the southeast.

Orlando, Miami and Fort Lauderdale, delay free to start the day and then later on in the afternoon and evening they'll see typical seasonal thunderstorm activity create 30 to 45-minute arrival and departure delays.

The midsection of the country is going to be mostly beautiful. They will have some isolated areas of weather in the Central Plains, but it won't be in proximity or near any major airports and so there shouldn't be any delays as a result.

And then on the West Coast, San Francisco International, 45- minute arrival delays this morning because of low clouds and the marine layer fog. It should be gone by noon Pacific Time for on-time schedules thereafter.

But overall, as I said, Carol, a second consecutive day of very good flight conditions nationwide, well deserved.

I'll be back tomorrow morning with the latest from Travelocity's "Eye on the Sky." Back to you.

CAPARAS: Very well deserved. Thank you, Rally.
