CNN BREAKING NEWS

Nigerian Peacekeepers Arrive in Liberia

Aired August 4, 2003 - 06:38   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We want to take you live back to Liberia right now. As we told you before, some peacekeeping troops have now arrived at the airport near Monrovia.
Jeff Koinange is there.

These peacekeeping -- this peacekeeping force, rather, is from Nigeria, right -- Jeff?

Jeff, are you there?

We do not have Jeff Koinange. We have lost the phone connection, but you are looking at live pictures -- live videophone pictures out of Liberia right now. The Nigerian peacekeeping force has arrived, some 300 troops. As you can see, they are heavily armed. They're going to secure the airport, and then move on into town to pave the way for Liberia's President Charles Taylor to step down on August 11.
