THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Sundance Film Festival in its sixth day of screening more than 200 independent movies out in Park City, Utah. Now, this event draws everyone from big time deal makers to the no budget desperadoes who are out there trying to scratch out a buck.
Our Anderson Cooper is covering the Sundance for us, and he checks in now from Park City, and he has got a special guest this hour as a matter of fact -- hey, Anderson.

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: Hey, Leon. I do have a very special guest, Tatum O'Neal, who I was obsessed with as a child, so it is very exciting to be here with you. Thanks very much for coming down to CNN.

TATUM O'NEAL, ACTOR: Oh, you are welcome.

COOPER: So, what brings you to Sundance?

O'NEAL: My movie is in the competition for dramatic -- the dramatic competition.

COOPER: The movie is called "Technical Writer."

O'NEAL: "The Technical Writer."

COOPER: And it's really a truly independent, one of those independent Sundance movies you sort of always hear about.

O'NEAL: Yes. Quirky.

COOPER: Quirky. It was shot on digital video?

O'NEAL: A Sony digital camera, and it's shot, you know, all in New York City during the summer, last summer, 20 days of shooting.

COOPER: What was that like? I mean, you -- you obviously have been in films since you were eight years old, when you started shooting "Paper Moon" back in 1973.

O'NEAL: Right.

COOPER: You won the Oscar for that movie, for best supporting actress. I think you were the youngest person...

O'NEAL: Am the youngest person.

COOPER: ... and the youngest person ever to win an Oscar. I mean, what is it like to go from a film like that to working in sort of this new medium, this digital medium, this independent cinema?

O'NEAL: It's really very -- it's cool because, as a -- well, as an evolving actress, you can sort of go with the times and I -- I -- I've been learning my craft for the last ten years, so it's really cool to sort of see how movies have changed, and it was OK shooting on digital. It's hard, I think to shoot really quick, and to shoot with no money. You don't get the perks, or you get really hot (ph).

COOPER: We're showing a clip, right now, of "Paper Moon." What was that experience like, to be 9 years old, and ultimately to win the Oscar?

O'NEAL: Oh, it was wonderful. Yes. I mean, you can't compare it to anything.

COOPER: Was it completely -- I can't imagine being that young and being in such a huge movie that was such a -- it's sort of a legendary film at this point.

All right. (UNINTELLIGIBLE). Another movie...

O'NEAL: I feel really honored.

COOPER: Yes. What is it like being at Sundance? It's sort of a bizarre atmosphere for an actress.

O'NEAL: Yes. I think all of us feel like we're a bit on show, all the time. It's our Best in Show, but for the actors, and I think that -- just -- it's fun. It's sort of like a party, but we're working all the time, so you sort of have to be ready to stop and do a quick interview at any given turn.

COOPER: And you're hoping the movie gets picked up?

O'NEAL: Yes, yes. I'm hoping that it -- that it -- well, we want it to win. It's a very quirky story. It's a bunch of different types of people, one is an agoraphobic guy who gets pulled out of his apartment by a sort of aggressive neighbor, played by me.

COOPER: You play an aggressive neighbor? I'm shocked.

O'NEAL: I do. I know. It is sort of -- very aggressive.

COOPER: And the festival ends this weekend, and that's when the judging ends?

O'NEAL: Right.

COOPER: Well, we wish you a lot of luck this weekend.

O'NEAL: Thank you so much. OK.
