CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Some U.S. officials say they want the Security Council to vote on a resolution regarding Iraq by the end of the week.
We want to get reaction now from Baghdad and all that's going on at the United Nations. Our Rym Brahimi is in Baghdad with that.

Hello -- Rym.

RYM BRAHAMI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Carol.

Well, from Baghdad, things look very different. Iraqi officials say that the U.S. is trying to pressure the other countries into accepting a resolution, which they think has no legal basis. They've actually (UNINTELLIGIBLE) they say (UNINTELLIGIBLE) Iraq, the state- run media is denouncing what it called Washington's attempts to dominate the region. And what it says is U.S. dictatorship within the U.N. Security Council to actually (UNINTELLIGIBLE) that amendment to a (UNINTELLIGIBLE) resolution.

Now, as far as that resolution is concerned, there hasn't been a decision -- a clear decision by Iraqi officials on whether or not they are prepared to accept a resolution. They say they'll cross that bridge when they get to it.

But they have been very vocal about what discussions has been taking place at the Security Council, denouncing the U.S. draft as a colonization of Iraq or attempts to insult the United Nations.

But (UNINTELLIGIBLE) the resolution itself is concerned, officials here say there is no legal basis to actually decide on how the U.N. inspectors should operate.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TAHA YASSIN RAMADAN, IRAQI VICE PRESIDENT (through translator): And it was confirmed the agreement was done and all of us have to start at the agreed time, so legally, there is no need to issue a resolution.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

That was Vice President of Iraq, Taha Yassin Ramadan, referring to an agreement that Iraq and Hans Blix have made for the inspectors to come back on the 19th of October. The delay of that return, he said, is a violation of that agreement -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Good enough. Rym Brahimi reporting live from Baghdad this morning.
