MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Let's shift our focus across the Potomac River to the White House, the North Lawn specifically.

CNN's Major Garrett is there for an update on what's going on at the White House today -- Major.

MAJOR GARRETT, CNN WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Miles. It's a bit unusual, President Bush and the first lady actually spending a weekend here in Washington and at the White House. The first couple took in church services just across from the White House, across from Lafayette Park at St. John's Church this morning.

And the president, also a bit unusual, is taking a brisk winter jog right as we speak. We'll get some video of that for you in a few moments, not within this live shot but later on this morning.

The president spending the weekend here in Washington at the White House, of course monitoring all the developments in Afghanistan. Senior administration officials telling CNN, much as Secretary of State Colin Powell just did, victory is measured in many different ways, and victory in Afghanistan is when all of the al Qaeda leadership and members are either killed, taken hostage, taken prisoner, or in fact dealt with in some other way. And, as the search continues for Osama bin Laden and that top al Qaeda leadership, the military campaign continues.

The White House emphasizing that it is not only just about Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda in Afghanistan. It is about the al Qaeda network in other countries around the world, and that phase of the campaign will begin after the situation is taken care of in Afghanistan -- Miles.

O'BRIEN: All right, thank you very much, CNN's Major Garrett at the White House this morning.
