Aired March 26, 2001 - 10:56 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Now, I want to bring you the latest on the story, this developing story which continues to go on about these two allegedly missing fighter jets out of Scotland. The Pentagon says they're not missing and yet, apparently, the search goes on. We have with us -- on the phone with us right now, Jane Lawrenson. She is with the police department in Grampian, Scotland to tell us the latest.

Jane, are you there? Good morning.

JANE LAWRENSON, GRAMPIAN POLICE DEPARTMENT: Yes, I can hear you. Hi, there.

KAGAN: Can you tell us what the status is? You say that there are two planes missing.

LAWRENSON: Well, no, we have had reports from the areas. We got our reports at 20 to three this afternoon, which is just over two hours ago that said F-15 aircrafts were overdue from a base in Southern England. We have mustered our mountain rescue team and there's been another mountain rescue team mustered in the northern (UNINTELLIGIBLE). And we're going to be doing a ground search of this terrain to see if there are any traces. But we don't know if the reports are erroneous or not. We're just acting on information that we've got.

KAGAN: Where did those first reports come from?

LAWRENSON: The first reports I gathered have came from the Rescue Coordination Center and...

KAGAN: Hello? OK, well, we'll be checking on that again. The story of the Pentagon, Jamie McIntyre was just telling us that the Pentagon says there are no planes that are missing. The story that's been going on over the morning, over the last hour, looking for two F- 15 fighter jets over Scotland that were on a routine training mission. As you were hearing, the spokesperson from the Scottish police department there saying that they're search is on. We're going to sort this out, get some information and have more for you just ahead.
