Former Cast Member Discusses Surviving "Survivor"

Aired January 24, 2001 - 11:42 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: "Survivor" fans are about to get their next big dose of TV voyeurism. "Survivor: The Australian Outback," premieres this coming Sunday, right after the Super Bowl.

Jenna Lewis was one of the cast members of the wildly-popular original "Survivor," and she's joining us from Dallas.

Jenna, good morning, good to see you.

JENNA LEWIS, FMR. "SURVIVOR" CAST MEMBER: Good morning. Thank you for having me.

KAGAN: It's great to have you.

Do you have any scoop about this next round of "Survivor"?

LEWIS: No.

KAGAN: Do you know who won?

LEWIS: No, I don't. They are keeping it as a hush-hush as the first one.

KAGAN: So...

LEWIS: But I have my favorites.

You do. So you already have kind of an advance on who some of the characters are...

LEWIS: Characters, I love that. I mean...

KAGAN: Because you guys are characters, you know that.

LEWIS: I -- well, maybe to you. But really, we're portraying ourselves, so it's kind of hard to -- characters.

KAGAN: Well, who should we be looking for? Who do you think are some of the more likely people to survive this time around?

LEWIS: I like Kel. He's the army intelligence officer, Kel Gleason. And I like Jerri Manthey. She is the actress from L.A..

KAGAN: And what is it about them? I mean, do you just kind of like them? Or you like them to win? Because I know, from watching the first time around, those are two different thing.

LEWIS: It is.

But now that they have an edge, because they know how to win, I think they're both very likable, well-being and intelligent. So I think they have a good chance.

KAGAN: How do you think it's going to be different this time around, given that these two people kind of know the gig and they got to watch you guys and they got to watch the alliances and all the other kinds of manipulations taking place on your island?

LEWIS: It's going to be very different. Number one, they are going to be a lot more savvy. They are a much better-looking crew because I think they are much more aware of the cameras. And they know they have to make something, so that they shine. And they are more aware of the media buzz that will be around them.

And besides that, they know the strategies. But I think that's going to make for a better show for the reasons that you are going to see alliances form immediately, but then the deterioration of them. There's going to have to be several alliances and then someone getting kicked off. And it's going to be nasty.

KAGAN: So, if you were able to go again, this around two, would you have taken that opportunity?

LEWIS: Oh, yes, definitely.

KAGAN: You would have.

LEWIS: I would have paid to go again, yes.

KAGAN: And what would you have done differently? You got pretty far in the game.

LEWIS: I did, I did. I could have gotten further if it wasn't for the alphabet system. But...

KAGAN: That's right.

LEWIS: I don't know what I would have...

KAGAN: Sean, Sean...

LEWIS: Yes,.

KAGAN: ... right?

LEWIS: I don't know what I would have done differently.

KAGAN: The dreaded Sean, the doctor.

LEWIS: Yes, I know.

KAGAN: You don't know? I mean, like the lesson that you learned, change your name, a different alphabet?

LEWIS: Yes, I know. I would be called Zoey (ph). I would definitely go into the game with a different name.

No, I guess -- I don't know, maybe not complain. I don't think I complained, but maybe not cried as -- when I got my tape from my girls because I thought that that showed a sign of weakness. And people thought I wanted to go back home.

KAGAN: Jenna, Jenna, I've got to -- this thing CNN, we survive on breaking news and we have a little bit right now, so I'm going to thank you for stopping by. We'll look forward to the next "Survivor." Jenna Lewis from "Survivor," thank you very much.
