LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: The FBI is preparing a news conference now on the Texas prison escapees. Where the search now is centered is in the area around Colorado Springs, where a van has been spotted behind a restaurant near a Quality Inn hotel. Hotels in the area are being searched. There's also the possibility that the two men, who police believe did try to get out of the Colorado Springs area, were driving, may have gotten to the interstate and gotten out of the area.
We have a bit of other information here about officials in Texas are telling us that they don't plan to offer any plea deals to these convicts no matter how much they cooperate. Four of the seven fugitives that were captured yesterday, as you may know, in the Woodland Park area, which is about 15 miles outside of Colorado Springs, they have been given authorities, according to one wire report, some information about their crimes since their breakout from the Connally unit of the Texas prison system. That's near Kennedy, Texas.
Two men are still on the run. another escapee shot and killed himself yesterday. It's the two men who are still on the run that we're concentrating our coverage on today. We have several affiliates working the story. We have our own CNN Frank Buckley out in Denver. We're watching the FBI.
These two mean Murphy and Newbury -- one a convicted rapist, the other a convicted armed robber -- are still considered armed and extremely dangerous as police try to close in. They are hotter on the trail than they have ever been, because, as you know, the delay in the time of the prison escape in the Connally unit and authorities discovering the escape allowed their trail to go cold. And it's been this length of time. But authorities are optimistic they can close the gap this time -- Natalie.
NATALIE ALLEN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, Lou, a few moments ago, we talked with a man who along with his co-workers at a restaurant there in Colorado Springs figured out that this van was suspicious early this morning and called police. In fact, we have a clip of an interview with a woman who apparently called 911.

QUESTION: What did you do? WILMA DAVID, WITNESS: Nothing but a van, and it be looked like the one we've been hearing on the radio. And then came in, and Tim was the next one to come in. He has the red car, and he said, that looks like it could be the van.
Well, we were just laughing about it, but the truck driver said there are so many things. Freddie the truck drivers. He's from (UNINTELLIGIBLE). So many things that look suspicious, let's call. And we said, Jim, we think we might call, so then Jim called. Yes. And no one left.
QUESTION: They're taking it pretty seriously.
DAVID: Right, they are. They are. And no one left. And I said, no one's leaving, and because no one's leaving, I think it is the right one.
And so, that -- we had a map and they had all kinds of duffel bags and they had hair color in there. And yes, there's men's -- Just for Men hair color in there.
And then the curtains, they were white. They're laying on the -- they're laying on the floor.
Yes, in that van there. We all looked in. We looked in and we saw it. And we said there are so many things that looked like it could be that we -- we think it is. So then we talked Jim into calling, and then he took a vote in the house. And he said, which one do you think -- how many think yes? And he said, four of us said yes and four of us said no.
QUESTION: Can we ask you a couple of quick questions on camera live?
DAVID: Yes, yes.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ALLEN: OK. That was Wilma David apparently, and with reason, excited that she was among those who helped police find the getaway van that these remaining two fugitives were apparently using. We're four minutes away from hearing from the FBI out of Denver, Colorado on the latest on this story and the search for the remaining two.
We'll take a break. Stay with us.
