Three of 'Texas Seven' Arrested

Aired January 22, 2001 - 3:00 p.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: Hello, Lou Waters again here at CNN Center, bringing you up to date on the apparent arrest on three of the seven Texas escapees in Woodland Park, Colorado, which is near Colorado Springs. And we have a further report now of a road that has been closed off in El Paso County, which is home to Colorado Springs. We don't know what that means exactly.

There have been numerous sightings of all seven of these men, who are believed to be armed and dangerous -- those sightings have reported in several Western states since they broke out of the south Texas prison on December 13th -- they've been on the run ever since and accused since their escape of killing a Dallas area -- or Houston area police officer.

We have no names divulged so far. We do understand that these arrests took part at a private residence this morning, local time, in Colorado Springs. So, it's been awhile since we've got this information, but we are now able to confirm that three of the men being held are suspected of being among the seven inmates who escaped from that Texas prison. Whether there are more in the area or police suspect there are more in the area, we do not know. It's a breaking story -- we, of course, will continue to follow it.

I'm Lou Waters.
