This is Alpine, California, a mountainous and hilly region about 30 miles east of San Diego. This fire currently -- it broke out just about 4:20 a.m. local time. So that would have just been about a couple hours ago. It is off Interstate 8, spreading quickly over 700 acres. In Southern California they are dealing with very dry conditions. Also, the Santa Ana winds are blowing about 65 miles an hour. We do understand there are homes threatened in this area. We should tell you also it is a sparsely populated area. We will continue to watch that as the sun comes up over Southern California.
