Hostage Standoff Ends in Culver City, California

Aired November 6, 2000 - 11:47 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Quick update on that developing story out of Culver City, California, where a Target department store was taken over by three suspected gunmen earlier today. We do know at this point, though, that that stand-off has ended. It's over in Culver City.

As we look at the videotape, just to recap now, what we do know is that three suspects are in police custody, and 40 employees working inside the store at the time have been evacuated, said to be safe, some of them, though, still being questioned by police.

Also two of the suspects in custody were said to have been wearing Target uniforms at the time. Again, all of this went down between 5:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. local time when the store was about ready to open up for the morning, and apparently when the alarm system was shut off from overnight, that is indeed when the suspects got inside.

No shots fired, no injuries reported, but again the stand-off is over, three suspects in custody in Culver City, California, and that Target department store.
