Cheney Changes Voter Registration, Could Have Implications for VP SelectionAired July 21, 2000 - 6:47 p.m. ET

JOIE CHEN, CNN ANCHOR: I'm Joie Chen reporting from CNN Center. There is breaking news, developments in campaign 2000. Of course, there's been a great deal of speculation about a possible running mate for Texas Governor George W. Bush. He's suppose to be considering that decision this weekend as they get ready to go into the Republican convention that begins just over a week from now.
Now CNN has confirmed that the former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney, who is heading Mr. Bush's search for a No. 2, has switched his voter registration from Texas back to his home state of Wyoming. Why is this significant to the political watchers? Well, that's because the president and vice president cannot have their registrations in the same state.
We don't know, however, what that means for Mr. Bush's selection process at this point, just an observation that we are watching at this point.
CNN confirming that former Defense Secretary Dick Cheney has changed his voter registration back to his home state of Wyoming.
