MOON SHINE The first man on the lunar surface, Neil Armstrong, snapped this photo of the runner-up, Buzz Aldrin, in July 1969 as the latter, near the lunar module Eagle, unfurled a sheet of foil to collect particles streaming from the sun. The Apollo 11 astronauts returned home with the solar wind samples and more weighty souvenirs, 46 pounds of moon rocks and dirt. Over the next three years, NASA moon walkers bagged almost 900 pounds of lunar mementos.
