Sign

NEW CONCORD, Ohio (CNN) -- Throughout the United States, the first American to orbit the Earth is a genuine hero. But there's an extra measure of pride in New Concord, the small town in eastern Ohio where John Glenn was born, grew up and went to college.

It was New Concord that gave the astronaut his start in life and it would be hard to find a better hometown launch pad. See for yourself in this report from CNN's Jeff Flock.
