Hubble team talks about recent discoveries
October 22, 1998 (CNN) -- Astronomers have announced that the Hubble Space Telescope has discovered the most distant galaxies ever seen. Using an infrared camera installed just last year, Hubble peered through space dust to find the galaxies, whose light took 12 billion light years to reach the orbiting observatory. Astronomers called the finding astronomy's "Lewis and Clark expedition." The Hubble team from the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore discussed their findings on a WJHU Radio show broadcast October 14, 1998. In a separate segment, scientists from the Space Telescope Science Institute, Cornell University and other leading institutions take up the question of life's cosmic origins. Listen in as they discuss the possibilities of life on Jupiter's moon Europe, Mars and other planets beyond our solar system.
